What did you do in the garden today?

Planted some lettuce, peas and yet more strawberries today.

First bloom this year I’m really excited.
I also tried to make a homemade apple pie for the first time. The crust fell apart rather spectacularly :gig
And I found an apple seed sprouted inside the apple. I’ve found this with tomatoes but never an apple.

I wish I could grow them but it g ya too darn hot. No luck so far.
Y'all are down in Phoenix, aren't you? We're up at Pinetop-Lakeside, so not worries up here, but yeah, it's dicey down there. I've been trying to help my mother and sister in law grow iris down there for over five years with verrry limited success.

So far the best practice has been with morning sun (or a couple hours morning and couple later evening), shade through the middle of the day. Also to plant the rhizomes so the fan of leaves shades the rhizome from the sun, if that makes sense. Lots of folks over-water them, thinking to counteract the heat, but that just bakes them.

See there, you know lol. I do have a shaded garden that gets high shade after 10 or so in the hottest part of the year so I might try them there. I’ll hit you up for some advice!

Removed some weeds yesterday from the garlic & onion beds. Also stuck a pineapple top in the ground. Had tried to root it in water as seen on U-Tube but after 1 month, very few very tiny roots, lots of slime and things starting to get smelly ( yes I changed the water frequently) I stuck it in the ground. Hope it takes off.

Aside from looks, I bet that pie tasted good. Strange apple- isn't nature interesting?!

It did taste good! Even the crust. In fact I think I’m going to save some of the syrup/filling to baste over the top of the crust. It caramelized and it made the crust even better🤤.
This is the recipes for the pie and the crust if anyone’s interested
