What did you do in the garden today?

Happy New Year all! We got a lovely hard frost overnight that put down a thick layer of frost. Very pretty. I guess we'll be getting your weather tonight @jerryse. Snow then freezing rain. Happy it's not a big storm. I sent my snowblower off to have some well deserved attention so I'm crossing my fingers that we don't have a big snow storm within the next two weeks. I sat down yesterday and worked out a garden plan for this Spring. I found a more "local" seed vendor in Maine and am working on an order now. I will be using the link you posted @Acre4Me and see what their rating is. They are Pinetree Garden Seeds. Their prices seem reasonable, although the seed potatoes seem a bit high. They're about $11.95 for 2lbs of seed potatoes. Is that about average? I'm going to plant 3 rows of corn and some pole type lima beans in the backyard garden where I planted potatoes last year. I'll be buying grow bags for the potatoes and putting them on the south facing side of the house. I'm also planting a lot more carrots this year and switching from turnips, that never did all that well to the swede or rutabaga. Hoping to have better luck with them.

Seems about right for online.

Morning all, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We went to bed at 1030. We had zero visibility freezing fog again last night. So in we stayed.

I'm working on a reversed engineered kniting project and it's taking me forever! I'm using a bulky yarn for speed sake for the mock-up but it SHOULD be done in Sport weight or Aran. Man that would take forever. AND I'm doing it totally plain with no pattern, which normally it would be a cable knit. GLORY.

Still 7 inches of snow and ice on the ground.
Beagle is belly up, sleeping on the floor.
Alpacas and hens are wishing for warmer days.

I STILL have a loom to slay. I have two sewing projects in the queue.
Bleh. Tired of my own walls.

Good afternoon gardeners. I started out in two sweatshirts and a tank top with my long John pants early this morning. I’m down to some pants and T-shirt now. It’s a good day for working outside. I transplanted 13 strawberry roots, weeded the shade garden except for the dandelions out in the walkway, transplanted 4 of the fairy dusters and cleaned up the coop yard. I’ve decided that if I’m ever going to have chickens again they won’t be sharing a sleeping space with the ducks. The mini coop has a few things left to move out and I’ve cleared the space for the pool. I also dug up the Mexican poppies and I need to find another Mexican heather this spring to put in. It’s a great ground cover. I need to run errands or I’d still be out there. Tomorrow will be seed sowing and a bit more straightening up. Have a great day all!

I've got the itch... I ordered some seeds. I opted to order from Little Shop of Seeds again just because the prices are unbeatable at 0.55 cents per pack of seeds. I'll still need to get other seeds as well as onion bulbs and seed potatoes locally when the stores here begin stocking the gardening sections for Spring. I'm hoping this year will be a a good year for tomatoes and cucumbers so I will be able to can pickles, sauce, and salsa. I'm going to put a lot of effort into peppers too and try to get enough to can pickled banana peppers in particular since they are a favorite of mine. Also, I'm hoping to plant 10lb of seed potatoes. If I'm lucky that will lead to a bountiful harvest that will support our desire for potatoes.

Lastly, I'm really holding out hope for our peach tree this year. It has yet to bare fruit since I planted it. This will be the third year now, so I'm going to see blooms this Spring. It will be a few months yet. Any tips for getting it to bloom and fruit are welcome.

Glad I'm not the only one ordering seeds this early! The only thing I'm doing to my garden is adding more manure to it. It's pretty cold/snowy/icy right now.

I tried to pare down my varieties this year by only sticking to my "tried and true" seeds, and I'm trying to contain my garden better too--deer were a big problem for me last year.
