What did you do in the garden today?

Good evening gardeners. Hubs helped me convert the mini coop to a duck house today, I just got the ducks herded in for the night. Took the pups to the park first thing this morning and we had it all to ourselves. It was really nice! I got a poblano pepper plant, a sharpening file and a Fiskars multi purpose hand tool that’s supposed to dig, cut open bags, etc. I can’t find my hand trowel so this will have to do for now. Couldn’t find any cement blocks at Home Depot so will have to look at Lowe’s, I need three more to finish widening the garden. Accidentally bought a red bell pepper plant instead of a second poblano but I’m going to put it in anyway, we’ll use them. I need to thin the lettuce and water all the seeds tomorrow, the bunnies will love me after having fresh stuff from the garden. I found out how far the water got after leaving it on for more than twelve hours. The mulch I put down has helped tremendously because there would have been serious runoff in the past but all the water stayed in our yard. That makes me extremely happy! Speaking of mulch, I have some to move for the garden expansion and I think I’m going to put it in with the oleanders. That soil retains no water, it’s just terrible! I can’t wait to start watering them with duck pool water, that should really give them a boost this Spring. The little birds are beginning to have tifs already. They were in the neighbors oleanders duking it out last week and that’s a sure sign that they’re starting their Spring thing. Have a good night everyone!

good morning here.

I have to convert my old chicken coop to a duck house so that I can move my ducks in another place and enlarge my garden. I don't see that this lockdown situation will end soon so I will not be able to sell my house and move to my new place. and I have some seeds in my (unfinished) new house :he

Covid has messed up stuff for a lot of folks. I’m sorry you’re stuck in this situation!

Good morning all. I ordered 6 grow bags from Amazon. I plan on putting them on a pallet on the south facing side of the house. That's the side where the septic system is so no in ground planting over there. Thanks for the suggestion of Early Girl tomatoes @Sueby. The Roma tomatoes are going where the butternut squash was planted last year but other tomato plants will go into containers away from where the early blight was. I will likely do one cherry tomato plant and two or three Early Girl plants. That should be enough tomatoes to enjoy fresh and to can.

The housing market has been strong here in IL during lockdown/quarantine. You talked with a realtor? You might be surprised.

I wish 3 or 4 pants allowed me to can. That wouldn't even take care of our need for fresh tomatoes. I fill a produce bag from the grocery store every week. That's why my garden plan has over 30 tomato plants. Then I should be able to can...

We use at least one quart of tomatoes every week, so I need 55-60+ quarts. Plus enough to make salsa. I had thought I'd get 3 quarts per plant last year... no where close. I'm figuring 1 qt/plant and hope to have some to share with a friend, so 50-60 plants planned for this year.

My neighbor cans 150 qts from 100 plants. But she's feeding 7 people. Just us two here. And the dog and chickens, of course.

Designed and built a new greenhouse all night long in my sleep. Woke up tired. LOL.

I think I just about have it now!

Now to find the energy to DO it. As fast as this snow melts, I might start. Heading for the 40s and 50s this week. Might be able to do the framing.

Spent all day in online classes, and testing to finish a course. Then spent all evening fighting with one of those new AI robot vacuums. It needs to figure itself out or it's going back!

Yup, we had 24 tomato plants.. I'd bet there was 200 + lbs of tomatoes that went to the pig in late Nov this year.. Plus we had fresh maters until mid Nov this year.. It was an awesome growing season for us..
