What did you do in the garden today?

I canned a lot of sauce this last year but no where near enough chopped tomatoes or salsa. I need to find out how other people feel about the salsa, I love it (it's all eaten) and only gifted one jar since I didn't can enough and I'd really like to use it as gift. Hoping to sell fresh tomatoes and greens this year, we get a lot of traffic from folks driving by to see the garden and I'm betting a lot of them will be open to buying veg from us, just the excess that doesn't go to the chooks and bunnies.

It looks like an abundant supply of collards is at hand this afternoon. If I am thinking about a potential harvest - it might be that this White Crested Black Polish Hen may just have the same thing on her mind today. Well the cold temperatures lately may have enhanced the flavors of these greens.

Last year’s crop wasn’t all that great. I was happy to have something to can. However, apparently I don’t consume as many tomato based dishes as many of you and I don’t really snack all that much. Salsas are primarily used in recipes like occasional nachos or enchiladas. I don’t intentionally raise enough to sell but do give away excess produce when I have it, however living in a semi rural community there are plenty of large farms and orchards and countless backyard gardeners, so trying to compete with that is pretty futile and not really how I want to devote my time. Just saying.

You must have a beautiful garden if people drive by just to see it. Pics?

Yup, we had 24 tomato plants.. I'd bet there was 200 + lbs of tomatoes that went to the pig in late Nov this year.. Plus we had fresh maters until mid Nov this year.. It was an awesome growing season for us..View attachment 2483621
How did you trellis them? I've have several cages, but not enough. I was thinking of stringing them up this year. It looks like you have a cattle panel down the middle of a bed just. Did they train nicely to that?

Just had to brag about this little handful of tomatoes. My last harvest of tomatoes bc tonight we get our first real freeze (possibly only lol). These are black vernissage I started from a free seed pack last ..idk Feb/March. They have been such champs. They survived a hailstorm, 2 hurricanes (a cat 4 and then 2), and blistering heat and swampy humidity in between. They produced the ENTIRE time. I'm blown away.
