What did you do in the garden today?

The price of lumber will likely halt the building of any more raised beds and we want and we want 6 more in this one area.. Luckily cattle panels haven't seen the same hyper inflation that lumber has.. The one run of cattle panels on the ground is 6 panels for 300" and 100" times 2 around the raised beds.. We have plans for a serious harvest this year as inflation is going to creep into everything.. Our livestock feed has already seen $1.00 to $1.50 per bag price hike and it's going to get worse I'm thinking.. Asparagus has been kicking tail and it's hit the dinner table 4 times so far and tonight will make 5.. I munched 2 stalks yesterday raw while kicking around the yard..

Hi, and where are you in Oklahoma? I’m East of Noble near Lake Thunderbird. Lots of pallets to be found around for free, and they usually don’t treat them with chemicals anymore if that might be an option. I’m doing mainly straw bales this year for my garden. Found some in McLoud for $5 each. Your greenhouse looks amazing! Also we have an Okie thread “OKIES in the BYC III.” Love to see you there too.

Good morning gardeners and Happy Easter. Welcome back @TropicalBabies and @Sooner Magnolia. Fingers crossed, but this morning may be our last frost. Perhaps Mother Nature is trying to apologize for the bitter morning last May 16. The plan for today is to plant lettuce, chard, curly kale, radishes and arugula. I'm not planting peas this year so not much else going in the ground for another couple of weeks. I do need to get the grow bags set up for the potatoes. I'm putting them on a pallet to keep them off the ground on the south side of my house. Then I do need to cut the seed potatoes up to cure them. It has turned a bit dry here so I need to get started on Spring yard clean up. I'm still waiting for my new weed whacker to arrive and the garden tractor is getting picked up on Friday for it's big tune up and servicing. I'm looking forward to trying out my new weed picking tool. This one let's you pull the weeds out by the roots without bending over or crawling on the ground. Infinitely better for the back.

So you made me curious...Of the three Big box stores in the area, here are the prices for a Cedar 4x4x8 post.

$35....$14 ....or $88 (for a 2-pack, no price listed for a single). So, $14 doesn't seem too bad, although surely higher than in early 2020. Maybe its an error, but that is one error I'd argue for bc stores usually honor their web pricing if you are in store shopping.

depends on the quality too. Prime and clear and construction grade are all different and cedartone is just colored cedar color.

Greenhouse is done. What a PIA. The panels are secured with the included clips, but as another buy suggested, they are also secured in critical areas with steel and rubber washer barn screws. There's NO WAY it would survive even a 25mph day without them. And it stops the rattling altogether. Also suggested was using clams to lock the windows open and closed. I have done that as well and may switch to a weighted bag or tie to the shelve system.

I still need to build the shelves, but that's another trip to town and another 11 pieces of 2x4x8 and two more shelf panels.

All I have left today is to secure down a decorative oak wine barrel and lid and to drop two more paver stones for steps in the front.

Heading for 85 today or higher and no idea if I'll get to weeding. I may have to put it off for later this week.

I am so jealous, it'll be another couple years before our asparagus will be big enough to get a harvest from. And your garden and greenhouse look great!

I had forgotten I'd ordered some seeds for those pretty Italian Ice tomatoes but they arrived yesterday so I'll pot some up today, heaven only knows how good they are but the pictures were irresistible. https://www.burpee.com/vegetables/t...TeCUpaS_MdsW-TGw-NNQc_NEOe0PkP7xoC02QQAvD_BwE

Put in a lot of irrigation piping, makes life so much easier over carrying buckets of water around. Someone mentioned asparagus, hmm, my crowns i planted this year but they are 2 y/o crowns, doing very well, but just not thick enough to really harvest. Im thinking I better just let them grow all year to get hearty and plan on harvest next year. Trying to figure out how to protect my strawberries, something is attacking them late at night, and I cant trap it to save my soul. Really don't want to set out a lot of poisons either because of the darned chickens too. Also planted some more fruit trees. My slappy apple, supposed to be self pollinating, didn't, so am probably going to plant an anna / dorsett around it to hopefully get some apples next year. Otherwise, gardening, answer me this.. when is there ever NOT something to do :D
