What did you do in the garden today?

So after I already planted peas and carrots, I decided that I want to do square foot gardening in that bed. This should end up looking quite interesting . I really want to get more materials to build a couple more beds, but need to sell the remaining four bunnies first. Put up flyers in our co-op and the farm store. Not sure why, but dont really want to put up a flyer in the pet store

My egg eater is just a jerk.

I had an egg eater- tried everything including blowing out an egg shell and filling it with mustard then sealing the hole- supposedly hens hate mustard- not mine, about 1/3 of it was gone by afternoon. I figured out the culprit- mustard beak- and rehomed. They are jerks.

Good afternoon gardeners. Everyone’s gardens are looking so nice! I love all the flower pics. I was thinking of you guys today as I walked out of the garden center at walmart giggling to myself. I needed a few things there and decided to see what they have for geraniums because Lowe’s and HD only had red or light pink. I found one that’s a dark pink that’ll go with the other two annuals I have in the side yard. I ALSO walked out with two purple lantana They are a trailing variety and will spread up to six feet so I’m going to put one between a couple of shrubs I have against the west wall and the other... I dunno yet but maybe somewhere out in the xeriscape area. I watered the veggies today. The tomato plants are still pretty small but growing tomatoes nonetheless. I suspect the harvest won’t be great this year but once the plants are spent I’ve got some great bunny litter to spread in there. The garlic isn’t doing great and it’s probably too hot. I was going to pull a couple and see what they look like because they’re already dead on topI felt rushed to get the whole thing going so I’m a bit irritated by it all. Next year will be better and I’ll be more prepared. So far the watermelon is hanging on and the flowers have to begun to wither on the squash. I’m super excited that at least something is doing well. The luffa is too, it has really started to spread. If the garlic is toast I have the blocks to finish off that area as a separate bed for shallow root items and then I can fill the bed with soil and bunny litter. I think I’m going to try layers and add some worm castings as well. I cleaned waterers and pools this morning and put some fresh straw down in the duck house. It’s already almost to the top of the blocks so that will have to be cleaned out before long. I already have plans for it. Anyway, sorry to ramble, have a great day all.

The only way that would work with my birds is to put a baby mink in the egg, or a woolly worm or tomato worm caterpillar, they are terrified of those. Everything else they'll eat.

Made new bed for more blackberries this one is full sun , then planted some more. The strawberries I got at TSC are dead for sure, so glad I bought some live ones from FFA kids. My garlic is doing great. Set up a hydroponic tote yesterday in part shade for greens. Planted some rhubarb I've had for too long hope it makes it. Sprouted some old seed packets of wax beans to test and them and saw a baby plant today! Beets are just busting through soil . Seedlings are loving being outside. Trying out some new varieties this year and getting clever where to plant them all. I've learned I Hate starting tomatoes and peppers! But having a great time with cukes, squash pumpkins starts they gave me hope since it's been several years since I've had garden. My hubby made a raised bed for me and old body late summer last Aug. Sorry I'm rambling on . Even had time to make casserole , deviled eggs for potluck tomorrow. I love having my ingredients in backyard! , Pics of garden and a surprisingly beautiful double tulip I bought at Walmart last fall!!

Just got home and watered the greenhouse. The next door neighbor got picked up his tomatoes so now the only thing in the greenhouse is my stuff. It needed watered badly though hopefully it perks up alright. The squash and cucumbers are up now. I expect most of the rest will pop up after the rain we are supposed to get Monday and Tuesday. The strawberries are starting to come in good now. I picked a quart bag full today and I’ll probably get another tomorrow.

I had no idea pee was good for the compost! DH always just goes behind the shop, gonna tell him to use the compost.

It's a good source of nitrogen, and other stuff too.

I'll never order from this company again. They're shifty in their description and their customer service is beyond horrible.

I got my Gurney's onions, finally. I haven't opened the box yet to see what they look like.

Today I up potted a bunch of tomatoes. I don't know how many; I had to stop before I was done.

Today we built the coop add on! I will be posting pics on my build thread, probably tomorrow. I learned how to use the chop saw. Hubby did most of the work, though. I was a pair of hands and a writer down of measurements. And I had to cut a 10 foot roll of 1/2" hardware cloth in half lengthwise.

We were under threat of rain, but only got a couple of short periods of sprinkles. The 40+mph winds the said we would get didn't materialize either. Mother Nature was watching out for us.

Part of my issue is I paid EXTRA for taller trees 3-4 or 5-6 foot trees. They included the length of the scraggly roots in their measurements. In some cases these tiny hair-like roots were sometimes 2.5 feet long and they included that in the total measurement. I got nothing taller than 28 inches tall.
They only warranted them for 6 months. I've lost 50% of them. Most of those at about 8 months, the rest didn't make it through winter. Each had huge holes, fertilizer, and it's own drip irrigation line. NONE of them threw new growth at all. Ridiculous.
I ordered from them because they had interesting varieties. Nope never again.
