What did you do in the garden today?

We are picking broccoli and spinach now, peas are flowering and about 1/2 way up the fence, The mustard, kale and the rest of the greens are about 3 inches tall, green beans and cucumbers are just breaking the ground and we have about 6 early tomato's about a foot tall. It's still raining about every second or third day so of course the weeds are growing like weeds. :)

I am trying Pineapple Ground Cherries this year.  I have a few more that I didn't put in the ground, so if those die, there is still a backup.  Does anyone have any recipes using them?

I have used them in place of berries in muffins, jellies, and compote - that worked well. They are also great for snacking on fresh.

I'm spading out an extention to a flower garden by hand! Can you believe it?.The soil is still nice and moist yet not soggy, and I'm mostly trying to peel off the grass so that our south, in-front-of-the house bed will be twice as large. It's fun, but I'm taking it in slow easy pases, 'cuz I was too much of a computer nut over winter.

I loathe adult squirrels, rabbits, coons & opossums...they get probably 40% a year of my veggies, caused roof damage & attack the pets (coons-not squirrels), we've tried sprays, auto sprinklers, motion lights, growing things on other side of property to try and co-habitate and trapping for release (to find out animal control here puts "nuisance" animals down), none of it made a dent.
Although *this* year I have last years birthday present from the hubby and have only lost 2 strawberries & some figs (we have plenty of figs to share with wild birds)

It'll be worth it I'm sure! I have been contemplating moving the herbs into their own space- freeing up some space in the raised beds, this would mean a lit of slow digging for me lol your post motivates me a bit more to do it!

Thanks for the ideas, I am so excited about them.

I think I have figured out the picture thing. here goes. Pictures of my yard 3 days after the rain, Chicken house has the white door, veggie garden to the right, it was only partially submerged. Pictures of my horse trough flower pot. Pictures of frogs and lizards playing checkers (painted checker board on old stump).
