What did you do in the garden today?

Re-potted my eggplant now it's started to rain heavy, weather so unpredictable, surprise frost last night, hope potatoes ok, then really hot and sunny earlier.

Fava beans and tomatoes flowering, peas climbing well and picked first few leaves of lettuce. If rain stops I'll plant out some more brassicas and maybe sow some calendula seed.

I topped and deflowered the row of herbs today, watered all the gardens, stapled up some cloth to shade the chickens, added a spent shoe to the tree near the garden for the finches to nest in, transplanted some Holly ferns, Boston ferns and a Loquat tree sapling, played squish the evil caterpillar on my cabbages & broccoli, went to the feed store for supplies & took a dip with each of the chickens to cool off. Winding down now that the brutal sun is setting :) was a productive day!

I sat in the shade and watched my wife and the gardener cutting grass and tidying up the bushes. It's too hot out in the sun for a mere mortal like me just now.

The rainy season is about to start and my wife is looking forward to planting maize when it comes. Tropical rain - something else I don't expose myself too!

Lol! Niiiiice!

I splurged on garden plants today. Some colorful annuals for fun, some perennials to fill in bare spots in the garden bed, and some bush cukes and heritage tomatoes to add to the veggie and herb patch. Has anyone here every grown a heritage tomato called 'Black Krim"? I am giving it a try and wondering how it tastes. The photo of the fruit is intriguing.

Thought you might like to hear what the north is doing. I live in Maine. we've had exceptional weather so far this spring but starting last night heading into a 5 day rain week. I have most of my garden in..10x60 except for the tomatoes, peppers, egg plant. I started planting on April 22nd, 2 rows a day and weeding the herb beds, there are 8 of them. Before the garden was planted though I moved all the composts beds into one big one and let the chickens free range. They love the garden in the spring, and the compost pile. The always head for the asparagus bed and like to fluff the soil and dust themselves. I have a variety of 12 chickens. I always curious what people plant for tomatoes and what they like the best. Anyone want to share what kind of tomatoes they plant and what is their favorite chicken? Roxanne

Good job. My fav chicken so far is my rescued easter egger mutt. She is just so sweet and cop's n follows me around lol. I plant Jubilee toms & Brandywine toms so I can have diff colors in my tomato baskets as well as my egg baskets! :)

Weeded a bit, worked on making some tomatoe supports. Storming now, so no more garden work for me today- BLEH!
We plant beefsteak x heatmaster hybrids. Its one of the few tomatoes we've actually had exceptional yields on with the high heat and humidity. The heatmaster is bred for high heat and humidity so it works out well :)
My fave chicken right now is my black bantam cochin roo, Capone. He's so fluffy an silky and will just sit on my lap and talk to me.

I'm hoping I have everything planted now. Tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, october beans, green beans, onions, garlic, peppers, watermelons, okra, radishes, beets, we did a new bed of asparagus .......lets see....did I forget anything?
