What did you do in the garden today?

Now, I don't know about you... But I gotta see it to believe it. :frow. Will you post up photo's of the bush and where did you set your seed's?
We have a BYC seed box that another member started.. It travel's around the State of Arizona to different members.. We have a gathering with other chicken/gardening folk... Our next one is coming up here in Tempe... I'll look for a photo of the box, It is fun to see what BYC members sign the box..
Well, & all the beautiful seed's inside..

I think I bought the seeds at Mills Fleet Farm. Either that or Runnings! The beans get even longer than these. I picked all of the mature beans so these are still growing. When I pick to eat I will also measure them just out of curiosity.

Those beans look like the Oriental yard long or Asparagus bean .

I was gone for a week and had a huge explosion of squash bugs. They are solidly covering some of my melons and decimated my lemon cucumbers. I sprayed the worst areas with some water/castile soap mix, then decided I'd just let the chickens in there tomorrow.

Think the soap will hurt them? or should i wash everything down and let the chickens in when everything dries?

Potted up some thrift cuttings (creeping phlox) and potted up some strawberry transplants and built some shelves to put them on.
I am trying to keep the fire ants out of them and maybe keeping them off the ground will help.

Also found some old cement blocks for raised beds. Will probably use them for broccoli once I get some good dirt in them.

I think that soap is all natural , I'm not sure. You could also spray neem oil, lavender essential oil, and or orange or lemon essential oil on them. It also works really good for spiders & keep the mosquitoes away. We use that in a mixture with water to spray on your skin.

What color of creeping Philo did you get? Are they edible for chickens or ducks?

I don't think the soap would hurt them. Old time farmers used good old fashioned soap to worm their chickens. (Mama threw out the dish water with the little veggie bits left in the bottom of the pan) Of course their soap was just that... soap without all of the antibacterial and other chemicals added to today's soaps. My chickens won't touch squash bugs, or potato bugs, or fuzzy caterpillars. All other bugs are fair game.

I have two colors...lavender and red. The chickens will tear it up and it hasn't hurt them yet. They really love the blooms.

They are so easy to start just clip off a branch and stick it in a pot of dirt. They root in a couple of weeks...just keep the dirt moist.

I potted up some bearded iris today and built another above ground shelf for the plants...so far no ants in them. I also started some hibiscus seed...got about four up.

I planted about 144 cell packs...they come up slowly.
