What did you do in the garden today?

Man, I wish we would get some of the rain y'all been getting! Last night, it looked like it could, but didn't. I did water the garden yesterday. That means dragging the hose around and filling up buckets to haul where the hose won't reach. (Waaah... want some cheese with that whine?)

I got the potatoes planted, and yesterday I planted two rows of onions. I plan to plant two more rows, and then the rest of the sets will be scattered around in amongst the tomatoes.

Last night, I got the starts out of the green house and into the dog crate I use as a hardening off place. It's wrapped in a sheet to protect the newbs from the wind and direct sun. I'll take the sheet off for a few hours today; it's somewhat cloudy.

I also plan to direct seed some of the shorter season varieties into the garden where I put the longer season starts. Didn't get real good germination rates on some of the new kinds I tried, so I'll use up the last of the seeds in the packets and cross my fingers.
Great work gal! Its only Wed,. and feels like Fri.

Good morning gardeners. I've got most of the plants in the ground. The grass is mowed and almost all the trimming done. The main garden area is looking so much better all trimmed up. But I ran out of string for the weed whacker so finishing is delayed for another day. Need to do some shopping today then clean up the sunroom. I planted the bell peppers and okra the other day and they are doing OK. The okra is looking perkier than the peppers. The squash plants are doing well. I still need to add dirt to some of the potato plants. It's on the list. We haven't had a good rain for days now so I watered yesterday. Sorry about the Robin's nest @Acre4Me. I was sad when my Robin family's nest blew out of the tree. I believe they made another nest though because they are still hanging around.

I have a terrible time keeping two hoses in good repair to combine to reach everything. I did find these things are great for watering the trees one hose can’t reach. I fill it directly with water.

It has rained 5 inches since Sunday night. We got a short break in the rain this evening so I went out to the garden.

I managed to get a few pictures of the hoop house frame.

I was able to bring two wagon loads of mulch out to cover more of the fabric barrier inside the hoop house but I still have WAY more to do. I think I'm just going to load a bunch into the truck bed instead of doing wagon load after wagon load. Probably be quicker...

My onions are flowering too

I also managed to catch my 9 mo old GLW rooster who has turned into a major jerk. He was butchered tonight before the storms blew back in with a vengeance. Almost didn't make it back up to the house. The wind brought down a big section of the dogwood tree right next to my garage...

Gracious, you had an eventful day.

Baby Robin pics from mid-morning. Egg shell is gone. 4 babies in here (clearly the youngest is below the older ones). Same moment, just two angles. Trying to not disturb them - but, I had to walk past that area, which meant momma would leave the nest, so I took the opportunity to take a pic.

Awww, so sweet

Hey all. Been a real busy few days, I keep trying to catch up then get interrupted.

Been dry here so I watered everything today.

A few of my shallots bolted & I'm not sure what to do with them, I keep reading differing opinions on it. Some say to cut the flowers & leave them, others say pull them as they won't grow anymore & yet others say let them flower. They weren't turning brown yet so they aren't ready, we just had a cold, wet spring & I've read that can make them bolt. I think I'm going to just cut the flowers off & leave them hoping they continue growing unless anyone here has grown shallots & has advise for me! :fl

My little bush squash plants have flowers & itty bitty squash on them. The purple pole beans are for sure bush beans. :he The strawberries look fantastic. The garlic does too, a few of the outer leaves are starting to brown up a bit - won't be long till it's harvest time! The peppers are meh. They're ok, just very tiny. Everything else is looking good.

No to try & catch up...
