Just stumbled across another snake leaving the coop. I think this one was close to 7 feet! It was coming out a shoulder high window with its tail still in the coop and the head already across the path! This is starting to feel surreal. My grown chickens don’t even react to a snake in the coop anymore because of how often it happens!
Hardware cloth is your friend!
The whole coop is covered except for the chicken door and when the windows are open on hot days. I watched it go back in through the chicken door this afternoon! I think I will cover the windows too now though since they will be staying open at least during the day. No idea what to do about the chicken door though.
I do actually. It’s frustrating. I can get rhubarb and mint started, but strawberries…
Sheesh, the chicken door is a hard one. Is it ground level or a bit of a hop? If it's a hop, take down your ramp and put a ledge there instead maybe? Hard problem to solve honestly.
I’m afraid there just isn’t really a good option here. The door is a bit of a hop but not far enough to keep out the snakes. And even then they just climb the chain link of the run. If I start doing more hatches i think I’ll break down and wrap the feed area with hardware cloth since that’s where the chicks stay.
