Could be too hot a compost. Some, most seeds, don't like to germinate in compost proper. For the second year in a row, my lettuce, spinach, and carrots aren't doing anything! I usually have no issues growing the carrots at least. The only thing I changed is their location in the garden. It's a raised bed, about 4 feet by 30 feet. Filled with what we call black gold. It's a mix of yard waste that the next town over collects and they let it compost. Then give it away free. My tomatoes, onions, beans, and strawberries are all doing wonderfully! Any ideas on what the issue could be with the slacker veggies? Weather has been hot and sunny with rain at night. And we have a fence around the yard and garden so no one can come in and snack

THe wild turkey hen that has her home in the hayfield somewhere, decided to take her morning food stroll this morning INSIDE the alpaca pasture. They boys were confused that she dared enter their domain, and were tolerant and she plucked along nibbling their grass. But they drew the line and came out in force when she DARED plop down in the middle of THEIR dust bath and proceeded to fluff about! How DARE she?!?!? They raced down, tails flicking, heads down and chased her off.
So funny.
930 and it's already 83 degrees NO wind and a dewpoint of 71 degrees. Hazy and HOT. Heading out to water and spray the boys down for flies. They're biting hard today. (the flies, not the alpacas)
