What did you do in the garden today?

Auction update!

I'm not for-sure on which chickens sold for what amount, but can make a guess. All cages were labelled with breed, egg color they lay, and hatch month/year. Most were 2 year olds, with a couple 1 year olds.

Sold 9 chickens across 4 cages. Looks like a buyer bought all chickens in whatever cage they bid on. They bid to get first choice in the cage, but winning the bid means you can choose to buy however many in the cage - you get choice.

Buyer A bought all chickens in 2 cages for $7 each and $8 each (total of $37). This is likely the 2 Brahmas, and a White Chantecler, and a Red Dorking.

Buyer B bought 2 Chickens for $10 each (total $20). I suspect this was the cage of 2 BCM that lay dark brown eggs.

Buyer C bought 3 Chickens for $11 each (total $33). I know this was the cage of 1 EE, 1 RCRIR, and 1 GLW.

So, after commission, I can buy a few bags of feed. Hopefully the girls are enjoying their new homes.
Sounds like a great success :caf

I sweated in the garden today. A lot. Dripping down onto my glasses, running down my back, down my front, down my sides. If that cleans out your pores, then I am really clean now!
I went down to the garden this morning at 7 AM for about 20 minutes. I sweated so badly I needed another shower when I got back. DH had just gotten out of the shower so I jumped back in just to rinse the sweat off! Ugh.... I hate being sweaty. It's why I always loved water aerobics..... The only cardio that doesn't leave you sweaty and smelly afterwards! :p

Anybody have a favorite way of cooking kale? I treat it like collards and stew it. I also like it added to soups. Not a huge fan of raw kale. I could make kale chips, but never have.
Favorite way is cut into strips the added to bacon and shallots, and sometimes finished with dried cranberries and broken pecans. I do the same thing with beet greens, shredded brussels sprouts, and chard but barely cook the chard. Lately I keep any of those greens in the fridge and add some to the hash I've been making a lot lately.
Yes, Dear Wife cooks the kale in her homemade Filipino Sinigang soup. When there is a lot of good garden produce, she loads the soup up with fresh vegetables. I love it.
omg that looks delicious! Spicy? :drool
I love fresh young kale raw in salads. The older stuff gets sautéed in bacon drippings or cooked with shrimp and pasta.
Okay I know how to cook it with bacon fat but how do you use it with shrimp and pasta??? Inquiring minds want to know?
Q on cooking: Beef Liver. Never ate it, never cooked it. My dad would eat it on occasion, but I never tried it. Now, I have some from the 1/4 cow we purchased. What to do with it? Yes, I would like to try to cook it for human consumption (besides, our single barn cat can’t eat THAT much and we do not have dogs). So, any suggestions welcomed.
Slice the liver into 3/4 inch slices and dredge in seasoned flour, brown a couple of onions worth of onion rings, and keep them warm in the oven, then fry the liver in the same pan to medium rare, (do not overcook liver) and put in the oven to keep warm while you make gravy in the drippings. Serve everything with mashed potatoes. Dang, time to make liver and onions again, it's been a while.

Fed and watered critters, transplanted some chard, pulled a few weeds, put out more slug bait, pulled the last of the beets, then it started to rain. Supposed to rain off and on all day and I am so glad. I'll prep the beets and greens and put a few potatoes in the oven with the beets to roast for later. For now I'll go see what soup I have in the freezer.

And I'm so sorry @TJAnonymous, try not to beat yourself up too much, what's done is done and all you can do is learn from it. That said, when I mess up I am far harder on myself than on anyone else's mistakes.:hugs

I took a walk around, had to tie up one sungold tomato. The others I'll do this weekend.
