What did you do in the garden today?

Anybody have trumpet vine? I like the look of it and my sister's neighbor gave me a large runner she pulled and potted up for me. I'm thinking about planted it by the garden gates and training it up the arbor over that surrounds the gates. Is this a terrible idea? Is it a hard to keep in check as some say it is?
I have it and yes terrible idea . There is a huge difference in strains . I bought some and they were very invasive . Lots of suckers . I now have some seed grown ones that are better behaved . Got fence row seed along crop fields . Less suckers and shorter vines . Still a pain but manageable .

My tomatoes are going crazy, missed two days of pruning/tying up and the indeterminate are almost out of control!
I have some bare spots where old seeds of leeks and broccoli never germinated, and wanted something to fill in that's not too late to plant. At the store, all the seeds packets were sparse/picked over and put back randomly in the wrong spots, but I did find a packet of Thai basil and some catnip. Never tried either before, so we'll see.

We went around checking the shrubs and trees, making sure the heat didn't kill them and refilling their in-ground waterers. From a distance, I spied a serviceberry plant that looked black - I figured it died and dried out from the heat, but after getting closer, it looked dark because it was covered with ripe berries! This was one just planted this spring, not one of last year's - surprising!
They are delicious too, look just like blueberries, but milder and less tart - they have a seed in the middle, but it is chewable and has a nutty flavor, not like the hard, tooth-filling- destroyer blackberry seeds! Can't wait until the others ripen as well.

do you have seeds for pasture? here they contain some seeds of plants that are natural wormers. unfortunately I don't know their english names.
Unfortunately I don't control what grows in my horses' pasture, since they live at a stable nearby, not on my property. But I like your idea, I could grow some of those plants here at home for my chickens.

MOLES!

tunnels, holes and mounded dirt/grass. These are the classic hallmarks of moles? First experience with this pest.

if it is so, then how to get rid of moles?
Oh geez, we have so many moles. We get molehills all over the lawn, field and in the garden. The only way I know to get rid of them that doesn't involve poisoning the whole area is getting a predatory cat or terrier.

Good morning gardeners. Another rainy overnight. Last night after suffering through random fireworks until 11 pm we had a loud thunderstorm come rolling through around 3 am. Good grief! Making some headway on the coop expansion. I've got the cinder block base set and ready to start building the new rooster pad. Yesterday morning DD and I indulged in some pampering and got pedicures. The garden is doing fine despite all the rain. The corn and pole beans are growing along at the same height. I picked some chard and pulled all of the curly endive yesterday as it was starting to bolt. There are baby tomatoes growing on my cherry tomatoes and Early Girls. Should start seeing some green beans soon as all the plants in the cucumber bed are blooming. There are even some baby cucumbers. Laundry was moved to today so will be tackling that as well as working on the coop. Except for the rain the temps are easier to deal with this week. Mid 80's today and maybe 90F tomorrow then cooling a bit after that. Good growing weather. Here are some pictures.
Little Miss Ellie got all dressed up for the 4th of July.

I've seen an orange flowered one growing in the area. It dies back each winter, and its growth each year is what it can do before it freezes and the top dies. I think it's illegal to sell in some states; I'm guessing southern ones because it doesn't get cold enough to kill it back, so it becomes invasive.

I guess I'd say plant at your own risk. I'm zone 5b, FWIW.

Hmmm…

our barn cat is not such a great hunter. Little things now and again, but not a really high hunting drive. The neighbor’s cat IS quite the huntress. She has gotten moles/voles, but rabbits seem to top her list right now. She doesn’t hunt our yard much bc our cat chases her off. I’ve toyed with the idea of a terrier, but spouse isn’t much of a pet person, so it is unlikely to happen.

Those little currant cherry tomatoes I started from seed this year and sold are a HUGE hit! they are TINY! About the size of a pea(or a nightshade berry, which tomatoes are cousin to). People are loving them for salads and for tossing in veggies, like greenbeans. They are stinking cute!
I am definitely planting more next year.
DH said they're more tomato-y than cherry tomatoes, which are sweet.

Quick egg delivery and thrift store trip this morning, then back to the cool and maybe tie up some rouge tomatoes before it storms tonight.

Get down and dirty today everyone. :)

Picked my first 2 tomatoes yesterday and holy cow...this is easily the largest tomato I have ever grown and maybe that i have ever seen. Will be going out shortly to pick some okra. I am completely blown away by the size of this thing. I don't know if the pic does it justice. The scale reads 1 lb 3.6 oz.
