What did you do in the garden today?

we have a big Fiscars lopper we got from my sister when she moved (so no warranty that I know of) but the blade broke when Mr. Dog was asking it to lop huge branches. But we found out they sell parts on their website, and new blades were only about $3 each. Easy to replace, and the loppers work good as new.

I think our local Menards sells Fiscars brand pruners. Good to know that you can get replacement parts. Whatever brand I buy to replace my Black+Decker pruners, I hope the company will stay in business long enough to back the warranty.

Update on my email to Black+Decker: I got an automated response from Black+Decker that they received my warranty request and that someone would be looking into the case. I don't know what they will do as they no longer make that model of pruner. Hope to hear from a real customer service rep this coming week.

Garden task today: Taking notes on progress of certain plants, where they are at mid-season. Its helpful to compare notes when choosing garden layout and seed purchases for the next season.

Then I'll make a birthday cake for teen. She has requested "Hummingbird Cake" for the last 3 years. This is a southern cake (according to the recipe) with banana, pineapple, and pecans in the cake. Frosting is a cream cheese frosting with toasted pecans scattered on top. She was hoping I would make it last night so she could have cake for breakfast today, but long day out of town yesterday, so no time to get that done.
My grandmother made a hummingbird cake for every get together. It is a family staple. We all love it and it frequently shows up to family events even though Granny has been gone for 12 yrs. We all got her recipe at one time or other, so there is continuity of taste.

They no longer make that one but I bet they replace it with a comparable one.

Have a dumb question you all call it bindweed is it morning glory? I battle that here it is very invasive
I looked it up a month or two ago. Bindweed has spreading underground roots, can go 12” or more deep. The roots store the energy. Morning glory is related, but does not have the same tenacious, energy storing root system.
