What did you do in the garden today?

I enjoy growing gourds - seems this year was not the best of conditions for the smaller fruited varieties. Here are a few pics of some of the large ones that are producing now. The elongated one is about 3 feet long.

I have an 8x8 perimeter area (on a cattle panel) I grow pole beans on.
This is our 3rd batch of green beans so far and the plants are loaded with flowers.

This picture was earlier in the season before the beans made a complete canopy. Here's the blanched green beans to put into the freezer yesterday.

My corn is sprouting! Yay!

Oh, forgot to share the results of my potato experiment. I saw this online and thought I'd try it. Instead of planting in a normal raised grow bag, I made a tall basket from plastic chicken wire. Then I used dead leaves and a handful of compost. I added more dead leaves as the plants sprouted and grew. Added about a cup of compost after a month or so.

Anyway, everything grew REALLY WELL They actually grew BETTER than all of the grow bags I've planted... However, I made one miscalculation.... The ANTS pretty much ate the potatoes.... I was left with empty shells. 🤬

Prepped the raised beds to plant bush beans tomorrow. Removed a ton of poison ivy from the back fence along with trumpet vine. Killed the wasp nest in the baby barn- was using it as a hospital for my bumble foot hen. Got stung before I realized there was a nest. Will mow this evening. Tomorrow- weed around the roses and weed whack along the fence- I did see one fig in my tree- yay.

Rabbits…new additions to our little bit of garden/livestock.

went to the auction and got 3 females: two are meat breed, 1 is to be a pet. We also got 1 buck (meat breed) similar size to the females, so can breed them soon. Also bought 4 babies that are approx 4-6 weeks old (according to the seller I spoke with). As expected, the prices were reasonable bc fair season is ending, so people getting rid of excess stock. Also got 2 nice cages, just medium size, but both have dividers that can use or remove easily.

About a week and a half ago, my AC went out. Leak in the evaporator coil. We've been limping by ever since... Finally got a reasonable quote to fix it but it won't be fixed until sometime next week. In the meantime, it's up near 100 degrees again.... So I went out and bought a new window A/C. Hoping to use it to build a walk-in cooler after the A/C is fixed. I wanted a 12,000 BTU unit but they were sold out everywhere so I had to bite the bullet and get a 15,000 BTU instead.

Now I just need the CoolBot, insulation, a little bit of lumber, a door, and then some shelves. Maybe another $600-$700 and I'm set.
