What did you do in the garden today?

All I know is it's too hot & humid out there for this old lady to be chasing broken birds around in! Had a little with a hurt leg, I NEVER touch these birds, never have. & I have a 1200sf run I had to chase her around in. Funny how they can't walk till you need to catch them! :smack

Well she's in the med cage & had a dose of aspirin. Hopefully she feels better soon.

Has anyone grown potato onions, aka, multiplier onions? (Not the same as Egyptian Walking onions.) If you have, did you save some to plant for the next year? If so, do you plant the big ones, like with garlic?

I just cleaned all mine and some are half an inch, some are over an inch. A very few are bigger, but they just didn't have time to split into separate onions.

I'd read that they get 2-3", and mine are no where near that. The sets I got last fall and planted were all around the half inch size, so I was hoping if I planted the bigger ones this fall, I'd get bigger onions next summer...?

Sorry Sally, I've never grown them.

My broken girl is panting up a storm, I feel bad. Gave her a bottle of ice in her straw, a couple ice cubes in her water & she's in front of a fan in the run. I'm sure it's more stress of being locked up, but I still feel bad because it's so hot out.

It only feels like 96 at the moment, but it feels worse than yesterday's 114.
There's NO wind.

The birds haven't been outside for three days as I refuse to chase them to put them away in this heat. This way, they're in the shade with a fan and food, and cool water.

Garden and orchard were watered last night by nature.
Pile of tomatoes to process tomorrow.

I got 2 cu. yd. of compost for my garden delivered on Monday. It no longer looks like a trash pile, but an actual garden area!

I went around to a bunch of Amish farms yesterday asking if any sell straw. One guy told me where they bought it from, so I drove out there. They sell it for $2/bale, and said they were going to be threshing today. I went to pick it up today, but because it rained last night, they told me to come back tomorrow (if it doesn't rain tonight). So, soon it will be covered with straw (and for half as much money as the Craigslist person I was going to go with, who would be charging about $45 for a delivery fee, as well).
I haven't been feeling well all week, and today, I learned that ragweed allergies could be the cause (the pollen count spiked the day I started feeling funky). So, I took the opportunity of not loading and unloading straw to take an antihistamine and chill on the couch. What do you know? I started feeling better. Tired, but better. Antihistamines really kick my butt!

ETA: I just noticed the hose is all symmetrical!
