What did you do in the garden today?

Been up working since 3am.
I LOATHE this shot I got for my hand. 4 hours of sleep per night is all I've had for 5 weeks. I am going to go fricken insane!
2 mile hike just before sunrise and the thunder was glorious. Temp was awesome, humidity was not.
Breakfast, logged in some work and then picked the garden clean of any whiting tomatoes. I managed a bushel that weighs in right were it should at 52 pounds. I'll wrap those in the next couple of days and box them up in the cellar.
Errands in town for 4 hours including the grocery. NEVER again will I go on a Sunday after church lets out, EVER.
Came home and gutted the garden as the tomatoes are showing disease and stress I can't treat for and they can't bounce back from this late in the year-blight and BERot mostly. The amount of rain this year, I just couldn't keep up with the calcium and gypsum.
I'm only a few days early on calling it done.
I trimmed back the grape vine and gave those to the alpacas. You'd think it was Christmas.
My old hen kept me company in the garden with the gate shut. She's the only one allowed in there and she managed several slimy worms, lord knows what down the 3 inch hole she dug, several grubs, a fat grasshopper, and 12 wrinkly hidden alcoholic grapes. I bet she's a mean drunk.
The luffa now has free reign over the 3 cattle panels it has spread to. Lord help you if you get to close to it. The amount it grows in a day is crazy!
Beans are dry.
Peppers are ready this week to trim and move inside.
Back corner still needs cleared of grasses and zinnias and I'll put up another cattle panel there to let the grape go the full 30 feet of the back of the garden.
Anyway, hope you all had a productive weekend.

Sauce is almost ready to can and the house smells awesome. So glad I treated myself and got a nice big water canner with rack, it's on the stove with water and empty jars now. Got the strings up for the second batch of sugar snap peas, they're growing much faster now that it's just a little bit cooler at night.

I try to get to the local grocery by 9:30. By 10, it's getting busy. By 10:30, very busy, and when church lets out, it's a zoo.

There is a lady who works there that I've talked to several times. She's works in Customer service Sunday am, and I stop by just to say hi and be a friendly face. This place is woefully short of cashiers these days. I was just going into a line and saw her at the far end of the check outs, so I waved. She waved me down, checked out my order, then went back to customer service, because the other woman there had to go to break.

That's why I always look for her when I go in, to see if I can brighten her day. She sure made my trip easier yesterday.

Good morning gardeners. We got around an inch of rain overnight, but the sun is shining and there's a nice cool breeze blowing. I picked a couple of poblano peppers along with a couple of tomatoes and some lima bean pods. These look like the nice sized beans we like so much. The bushes are loaded with smaller pods and blooms so I'm hoping to harvest more before cold weather sets in. I only got one tray of peaches into the freezer yesterday. DD called to let me know that the dinner plates she had bought were loaded with lead and cadmium. So we both did some research and discovered that even Corelle dinnerware manufactured prior to 2005 also was loaded with lead and cadmium. Also, pretty much any dinnerware that is not white and has any painted decoration on it contains lead. Euuw! We spent the rest the afternoon searching for non toxic replacements. This morning I found replacements for my large soup bowls, serving bowls and platters. You would have thought somebody would have mentioned this before. I've got the laundry going already and emptied the oregano out of the dehydrator. I picked rosemary this morning so will be putting that in there later. I did make pasta yesterday so that's in the freezer waiting for me to bag it up. I'll still try to slice up some peaches today and process the green beans for the freezer. There's still more beans on the vines but I won't pick them until tomorrow morning along with some chard. It is nice to see you posting again @karenerwin. I see you are in your jam and jelly making groove. Good luck with that. Have a great day everyone.

I'm glad you make a point of this. While waiting in the check out lines I've seen so many customers get really nasty with the cashiers. It's like since they're having a bad day, they need to make everyone around them miserable. I have so much respect for these workers who risked their own health to hang on to their jobs and worked to keep these stores open so we could shop during the pandemic. So thank you for being so thoughtful.
