What did you do in the garden today?

Yesterday I was too beat once we got done to update, or I forgot. Not sure which honestly. Everything we ordered is in the ground, minus an apple tree that's in my bedroom as we decide where we want it, lol.

Hubby got four sections of garden bed built, I helped fill, and we got blackberries, raspberries, and a blueberry bush all planted up and watered in. Additionally there's a rather small fig tree planted along the RV on the south side now. Supposedly it's good up to our zone but we'll see.

Today I watered all the things, washed some rugs outside in prep of going through the actual wash, and watched the neighbors try to burn their house down. Guy on the corner was getting ready to load his skid steer on the trailer, saw the smoke, and hauled butt down the road to help. I've never seen a skid bump and bounce down a roast that fast before. I don't know how, but somehow they set a car on fire right next to the house. The skid dragged the car out into their yard instead, and saved the whole dang house. By the time the fire department showed up... The fire was already out. Took them a bit to get here, which just means we in the county. Lol. *Insert dueling banjos here*

It's the first time I've lamented not having a five hundred foot water hose.

I dug out the wild blackberry plants that were trying to spread into the backyard. I mowed over my tiny compost pile accidentally ("What is that? An eggshell? I wonder where that came fr-oh... my compost pile. Oops."). And I researched the beetles we've been seeing down by my garden. They are called Blister Beetles, and you don't want to handle them without non-absorbant gloves because when threatened, they ooze a liquid from their joints that causes blisters... and we've been seeing a lot. I guess the mole we've been trying to catch down there is getting fat on them. I believe this one is pooping, so the bright green at it's back end isn't part of it.

Need to bring the Chicago fig tree into the garage for the cold months.
Need to find use for all the Jerusalem artichokes I have. There's a lot of them...
Need to plant garlic and walking onions ASAP.
Still a free pumpkins and butternut to pick if they are ripe.
Need to clear the annual herbs.
Need to collect every tomato and pull the plants soon - this weekend likely.
Need to weed the empty beds.

I'm also considering building a small deck for the ducks to give them a place out of the mud. I have put a LOT of mulch, wood shavings and grass clippings down in their run but it keeps turning back into mud.

a friend of mine just put a few pallets in his duck's run. works well when there is a lot of mud.

Not a bad idea, but challenging here.
Getting them is one challenge. Keeping me from putting them in the basement to keep things off the door incase of water seepage is another challenge.

I will have freeze soon so I am pulling up pepper plants and digging beets for pickling. Hens will get tops for a few days . I gathered mint and will collect parsley to dry. I dug up oregano and might bring in basil too. Getting cold in a m so finally feels like fall, except for blooming tomatoes! WHAT A WEIRD SUMMER!. I'm ready for fall though. We built deck and hubby made me a cute end table out of drop. He thinks it's silly but I told him he could sell them! Ha ha I just noticed our dog in the pic! All 10 pounds of him ha ha

We can get them from our culligan man or TSC will give you the ones riding lawnmowers come in just some thoughts.
I don't have a TSC in reasonable distance and no idea what Culligan was until I just looked it up.
Regardless, I would have to add boards anyway. I have a bit of scrap lumber laying around too use as joists to lift it of the ground a bit. I really just need a few deck boards then.

Hey now that is cute! We're having second summer right now to be followed immediately thereafter by fall temps again.

We're surrounded by all manner of industrial supply places here. Pallets, shipping crates, barrels, totes - you name it, somebody around here will have it.
