What did you do in the garden today?

44 last night, that's very cold for October. Picked some peppers to put in chili. I still have tomato plants, they haven't been producing, but I looked today and there's a few tomatoes on them. Also picked off 6 or 7 hornworms in various sizes so I will be out there tonight with a blacklight because I probably missed some.

Denali are great lids, albeit expensive.
Watched the launch and landing and then played hookie.
Went to the little thrift store and got first editions of the games aggravation, Life, and battleship!!! None look like they've even been played! 2$ each.

Went to HomeDepot to grab bags of mulch for 1.50$ and picked up a GIANT mutant mum that hasn't even bloomed yet for $10.

That's as far as gardening goes today. SUnny cool 60 degrees, but the wind is howling over 40mph!

I dug the last of the potatoes, and they are curing out on the porch. This was the Elba variety, and they are far and away the best producers. Kennebec is a distant second, and I won't even bother with Caribou next year, other than the 6 little seed potatoes the plants from seed grew.

I didn't get as many giant ones as last year, but I think that was due to last year's heavy rain at the end of the season, while the plants were still growing. The thing about the huge ones was that most of them had internal cracking from that very thing.

Haven't even stepped foot in the garden today.

I did notice one of my chicks has feathered legs. 🤷 Makes me wonder because I thought Cackles Olive Eggers were CCLB & Welsummer crosses & wouldn't have feathered legs. Or a huge fluffy face! I guess it could be an Easter Egger (yea, I know they're the same thing, lol). I'm just intrigued as I didn't expect it.

Supposed to be canning my xmas jam with my bff tomorrow but its all up in the air, my boss tested pos for Covid so I gotta go get tested. 🤬

No, I know that. My point was that this bird is not what it's supposed to be or Cackle is using different breeds than they always have for their Olive Eggers. Time will tell & it certainly doesn't matter. I'm just curious if they're trying something different, going the way all the other hatcheries make their OEs.

Covid test done. Always fun, lol.
