What did you do in the garden today?

So I went for my hearing aid followup . A minor adjustment . So while in the big city I went to a real meat market . Found chicken liver which has been scarce since covid . Pickled pigs feet also . Memories of dad . Wanted headcheese but only hot available . I can not do hot . A pet peeve of mine is pepper poppers . Slipping hot peppers into everything . I have fissures in my tongue and feel the burn more than most people .

I have never heard of pickled pigs feet. they don't sell pig's feet here, they throw them away (small scale butchers) or use them for making pet food (big companies). many parts of the animal have not be available for sale. such a waste.

@NewBoots we though he was part Basenji when we got him because he has some weird issues (he still does) so we had him DNA tested - here's the results:

He may be part Basenji as they are in the Sighthound group - but he is definitely half Rat Terrier! I'd never heard of them until this came back, it totally makes sense.

Had the leaves raked up in a pile to throw onto newly planted garlic. Slept in a bit late this morning, girls got in it.... I'll be re raking leaves to put onto my garlic. Those birds are worse than kids when it comes to leaves. Kind of like the rottentoo when I throw paper shavings in his cage. once Christmas I threw a 10 gallon of shredded paper into his cage, filled it over half way up with shredded paper. You'd thought he died and went to heaven, he buried himself in the bottom and chewed chewed and made a huge mess. All was good it all went into the compost.

Good morning gardeners. Still busy getting chores done. Yesterday I cleaned the pellet stove, the day before was cleaning the chicken coop. Today I'm going to try to start wrapping the chicken run. However, it's still a bit breezy so I'll see how that goes. According to the weather forecast, tomorrow should be a good day to clean up the leaves. Most of the trees are finished shedding their leaves except for two of my big maple trees. No snow in the forecast until next week, however, we've had a lot of pop up rain storms the past several days that were not in the forecast. Right now I still have fresh herbs growing in the herb beds. I really should dry some more oregano and parsley before I can't. Have a great day everyone.

I still have a couple producing tomato plants by the back door under frost fabric. The last cold night put some hurt on them but they are still blooming and maturing fruits. My lettuce and bok choi is looking beautiful and with a little luck I can keep eating fresh salads until Christmas. I picked and sold a garden cart load of greens and turnips this week, as well as selling 6 dozen eggs! That will buy some feed. My new flock laid 95 eggs in the last 7 days (18 pullets) and they went from mostly medium to mostly large as well, by the end of this past 7 days. I am very pleased! I also picked a few small Lion's mane mushrooms that grew from the bottom of my new mushroom totems/pillars! I did not expect that! The logs are not fully colonized yet, by any means, and I am not expecting any more till spring at the earliest. I have made a double decoction/tincture from turkey tail fungi and will dry and powder the Lion's mane for adding to soup or putting into capsules. Maybe that will keep my brain from getting any duller with age.
