What did you do in the garden today?

So I went for my hearing aid followup . A minor adjustment . So while in the big city I went to a real meat market . Found chicken liver which has been scarce since covid . Pickled pigs feet also . Memories of dad . Wanted headcheese but only hot available . I can not do hot . A pet peeve of mine is pepper poppers . Slipping hot peppers into everything . I have fissures in my tongue and feel the burn more than most people .

I don't know if they'd make good snacks... lot of little bones for very little meat. Makes a good joke though!

I got one of the garden boxes filled with dirt, got too hot, called it good. Still need to water. It was also laundry day, so my hands and arms are extremely tired now. Still need to get the grocery shopping done this evening. I like to leave the toddler with DH so I've only got one child to handle at the store. The one that doesn't throw the occasional screaming tantrum.

Might make chili tonight... don't know yet.

@NewBoots Yeah, dogs jumping to the end of the leash can be dangerous if they're big enough and strong enough. My aunt, who is not a small woman, had a black lab jump to the end of the leash and broke her bird finger. The doctor put a cast on it, and you guessed it, she walked around involuntarily making a rude gesture for two months. Sometimes we have to do what's safe for both us and our pet, although I totally understand the funny feeling about the choke collar.

Rats have been climbing the giant bird of paradise to eat the seeds so I spent the morning trimming those. An owl has been hanging around, hopefully it will help take care of the rats.

Today's harvest included a big surprise.. a mango on the ground right next to the tree! My mango flowered this year but I thought I picked off all the little fruit since it's too small and I haven't grafted it yet.. oops. Guess I missed one, bottom left in the photo. Those spots are just on the skin, the inside tasted just fine. Broke a branch off a pepper while staking it up. And picked my first Hawaiian guavas from the front yard so they missed the photo. Not very sweet but big so you don't notice the seeds. Maybe next year they'll be sweeter.

Nothing happening around here. Birds are naked, littles are getting big, lettuce is doing well under the hoop house, most of the leaves are down & collected for winter use. Just waiting for the snow I guess!

@NewBoots sorry about the fall. I wouldn't worry about the prong collar, they are not inhumane unless used that way. It sounds like it might be a good idea. She is very lucky she found you. ❤️ My messed up little goofball took me out the other day too. He has a run that goes from the peak of the house to the peak of the shop, he runs flat out the whole way so I always try to stay directly under the line so I can duck depending on which side he runs by me but I wasn't quick enough & he took me out. I had a bruise all the way up the back of my arm where his line got me. Knocked me on my butt! He's cute tho, even with those big ears.

Pickled pigs feet also .
Oh man I love those! I haven't had any in years though. Pickled pork hocks are good too. Probably terrible for my health though. I might cave in and order some from Amazon.

I'll only use it as necessary on walks and she really is much better than when she first arrived. Much calmer and she was on valium when she first got here.

What a cutie! What breed is he?
