What did you do in the garden today?

How are things? I hope you don't have any damage and are just helping out your neighbors.

Could you make her comfortable enough in a kennel for now? Not idea for sure.

Sounds like a win, win to me. :)

I washed the apple pie filling jars this morning and the tops look sealed, but the contents completely fill the jars, no air space visible.

Do you guys think they're okay as long as the tops looks sealed?
I think I’d empty some of the contests and re can just to be safe. The seal could just be sticky from the mixture and not prevent spoilage.

I agree @NewBoots. You should do-over. You need that 1/4 to 1/2 inch headspace. Make sure you wipe the rims clean if any sticky stuff. Regarding the wind storm last night: just some twigs scattered about. That and my giant candy canes need to be secured better. No time today though. DD and I had lunch with friends in Boston. With the drive to and from it was pretty much an all day trip. We’re making up for the missed holiday socializing during the pandemic shutdowns. One more “event” to go before Christmas. I think I need a nap. ZZZzzz!

We have 3 days coming with temps in the 40s-50s, and no rain. I'm going to be skimming some wood chips off the pile, and hopefully get some for the chicken run before it gets wet again.

So many things I could be doing outside, so I'll try to concentrate on the most helpful first. Anything that helps out for next spring will be good!

I also need to get a half bushel of apples in the dehydrator. I usually give jars of dried fruit for Christmas. This year, all I have is apples. :idunno

I'd probably re-can them too - I get nervous with canning stuff.

I decided to put up a bit of fence & cut her a hole in the coop so she can be separated inside & out, but still next to everyone. I have an extra auto door & 85% of the area is already fenced so it won't take too much & I can always use yet another chicken run. :gig I'll have to put a divider in the coop too, but it will work well. I have extra bird netting for the top, an extra heated waterer & an open outlet too. Like it was meant to be. LOL. It'll be a decent sized secure run - 12x20 or so. She won't have any snow cover besides the coop tho.

Sowed a variety of carrots, looked around and realised I may need to do some weeding, mowing and general clean up. Took a few pics of my progress. Very new gardener still

Chillies got picked and will be turned into pickled chilli for a friend.

I have a small pack of mixed climbing heirloom beans. Planted 3 and all three grew. Something new for me, I normally just plant boring green bush beans

Everything is looking great! Don’t worry about the weeds, I know there are seasoned gardeners that have them too lol. They’re part of the process.

Those are the longest beans I've ever seen! Nice job, it's good to see green things. :)
