What did you do in the garden today?

We have been loving the yard long/snake bean. young ones are pretty nice in stir fries but I'm trying not to pick them all because I want to save seeds as it's black seeded and I only had one seed in my pack which is now the plant.

I'm not normally fussed with weeding too much but with all this rain mixed with warm weather and sunshine some weeds were as big as, if not bigger than the plants I'm trying to grow

Sowed a variety of carrots, looked around and realised I may need to do some weeding, mowing and general clean up. Took a few pics of my progress. Very new gardener still

Chillies got picked and will be turned into pickled chilli for a friend.

I have a small pack of mixed climbing heirloom beans. Planted 3 and all three grew. Something new for me, I normally just plant boring green bush beans
Here is two kinds. (Oh can also see a green one in the background of the purple)View attachment 2927658

I'm gardening vicariously through your pics. :)

The corn you will need to hand fertilize since there's just a few stalks together. You want to fertilize every tassel I've learned since each tassel is correlated with a unique kernel.

As for the weeds, the happen to us all. I will say though I've had the most success with harvest when keeping weeds at bay. I prefer to pull large ones and anything else I can by hand and then hoe the rest. It's a lot of work, but well worth it. After weeding mulch with some compost, wood chips, straw, grass clippings, leaves, or whatever you can to keep additional weeds at bay. Mulching helps prevent roots from getting too hot too in your southern sun.

Me too!

For me, this really makes a difference. Really worth the extra work. And, if you get a good, thick layer of mulch down, it keeps the new weeds from getting much of a start.

Warming up here for December. 50F today, 53F tomorrow and 66F Wednesday, but the weather dummies are calling for rain on Wednesday now. :(
My 5 year old (the little guy I'm holding in my profile pic taken several years ago) keeps telling me I need to get "Ho Ho decorations" put up out front. Tomorrow might finally be the day I get that done. At least the tree is up and decorated complete with a train around the base inside. Not quite gardening, but I'll get my hands in some dirt at least sticking stakes into the ground.

We are clearly all remembering our spring and summer gardening through your pictures. :) Right now it's pouring rain and cold here. Luckily it mostly held off till Penny got her walk this morning. Last night we had one of the longest thunder and lightning storms I can recall. No real risk of fires since there's been so much rain.

Yup, I can hardly see the carrots for all the grass that popped up!
