What did you do in the garden today?

I FINALLY found a daily planner that starts on Sunday, so I'll be able to better plan habits and the garden/greenhouse/chores/real world.
Yeah, it should be the same as the calendar!

Watery sunshine out there. Not enough to warm you, but enough to brighten the day a bit. I don't know if I'll be doing much (or anything) outside.

I have half a bushel of apples drying in the dehydrator and a loaf of GF sourdough rising. I did a load of laundry, and I'd hang it outside if it were warm. Ok, so I'd be doing that outside today, if I could. Does intent count?

Definitely!

It managed to warm up to a balmy 29F right now. I’m sitting out with the chickens while they get some time in the yard. Next door is a group of visitors. Such a lovely gathering of Toms. The picture does not capture all their beauty.

We kinda blew it this year. Did buy a tree it is in living room. There is one blow up snow globe. A few more decorations in the house that is it.
We have had so much rain, did not want to hang lights in the rain. Blow up stuff can get water logged so they did not go out either

I SHOULD be done with the loom restoration today. We'll see.
We'll want to see it too when it's done, so don't forget pictures!

Raining and cold again today but I think we'll at least get the tree up. The rain held off till the morning walk was done so I'm grateful for that. We saw some deer up pretty close on the walk and Penny would have definitely gone for them. She has no real prey drive with the chickens but I'd never trust her with the rabbits and now with deer.

Going to make savory oatmeal for lunch today, the shallots and bacon are all chopped up and ready.

I scattered clover seeds in the yard and run, does that count as gardening? ;)

Been cleanin up the spaces in the garden that do not have anything growin in 'em. Cleanin dead vines off trellises. Cut down the dried out asparagus fronds and now need to mulch the bed and also Mrs. Lobo's Ube bed got mulch, as I do every winter and add goat poop outta the barn on top of the mulch.
Need to cruise the streets for bagged leaves that people put out for the trash man to pick up as that is the main source for my winter mulch. Slim pickins this year due to the huricane that blew through in Sept. and took a lot of tree leaves with it.
Started cuttin the cover crop just cause it's gettin too high and using it for supplemental browse for the goats. Not a wole lot of browse or them this time of the year and they love this stuff. Also I use some of it for mulch as it is much easier to manage in the smaller plants like carrots.
Also got the water tub we use for ML to grow another Filipino "sweet potato" in cleaned out and ready for next spring. We have to grow in a container as this stuff will spread and take over every spot of ground it can.
All in all, I'm in the eatin and watchin it grow stage. G'day

I have this thread watched, yet it is not dinging me when there are new posts.
Do I need to do something else to get notices when this thread is replied to?

Did a bunch of work yesterday, digging, moving wheelbarrows full of compost around. Found one tote half leaves / half grass, that somehow the grass turned into glop and clogged the drain hole so it was 3/4 full of water and sitting that way for a few months Im assuming, ick. drained it, mixed it with dryer stuff so hopefully tween the two I get a better mulching going on.

Using that for compost tea, am I correct to assume it's going to be WAY on the acid side and go to carefully with it?

Finished pulling the last of the sweet potatoes yesterday. One slip gave me a single potato - 4.5 pounds. That'll take a while to cook.
Ok now I am flat out jealous. I thought I had bragging rights with a 2.5 pounder. Simply just WOW! Please let us know how it taste. Is it sweet, fibrous, ???

Seriously, that is one impressive yam there!

Aaron

Edit: I take it, that is ONE tater too, not some crazy a bunch grew together into one lump right? wow.
