What did you do in the garden today?

I used to catch praying mantis all the time when I was a kid. I rarely see them anymore but when I do I feel like it is something special! :)

We didn’t see any the first year or two here. But, last two years- we see them often. First time seeing egg sacs though!

My neighbor 2 doors up has lived in his house for 30+ years. Said that his bushes would be infested with them during the early years. Maybe he removed those bushes (not sure), but he no longer has a noticeable population of them.

We welcome all praying mantis to our garden!

I grew up in the midwest....where Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan come together. They definitely seem to have a preference for certain types of bushes. I have seen them a few times in the south. Just not nearly as much as I saw them when I lived up north.

I once had one clinging for dear life on my windshield wiper. I literally stopped on the side of the highway to save it. 😂 I carried it home and put it in my bushes at my house.

Hahaha! TJAnonymous you just reminded me of DH rescuing the big wolf spiders at his work last year. Then bringing them home to feast on black widows. Eh, it's now spider season. Warm outside and warm for the duration of the forecast. 70s, 80s, 90! Sheesh. It was only in the 30s last night. Somebody flip the switch on the thermostat upstairs again? Lol.

Well it's time! Going to go plant up the plant starts that have been overnighting in my shower. Time for them, and their little gnat buddies, to be evicted.

I just washed two 5-gallon buckets of eggs... And I still have more to collect.

I really need to get rid of some eggs... I advertised colored eggs for Easter on Nextdoor. I'm also going to town tomorrow afternoon to see if I can get some 3-gal food grade buckets from any of the bakeries or grocery stores. If I can find a couple, I want to try water glassing some eggs for storage.
