What did you do in the garden today?

My 2nd order of Mason Bee cocoons were delivered today, so I took them out to the hatching spot I set up in the barn on the nesting block I made for them. When I opened the box they were in I found that 6 of them had already hatched while in-transit. It was funny to have 2 of them crawl out and onto my hand, look at me as if to say, "Hey, what's up?" and then fly off to do bee stuff.

And then there was this one, who apparently thought it was a nice day to just stroll around a bit to check the place out.

I have wanted to order mason bees for a while now. But we have a carpenter bee problem here and they get sprayed. I wouldnt want to risk them in the crossfire.

Yesterday I received my shipment of 4 more blackberry plants and 25 bare root strawberry plants. I built the bed and filled it with soil prior to their arrival. Got the strawberries in just in time for a good storm to water them in. Still have to put the blackberries in and the rest of my tomatoes, cukes, and watermelons that I've had to reseed multiple times due to poor germination.

I cut up a bunch of scrap lumber last fall to make another two new raised corrugated metal panel garden beds this spring. We finally got a few days over freezing and today I was able to load up that wood in my gorilla cart and haul it into the garage. We are supposed to get more rain and snow this weekend, but now that I have the cut lumber in the garage, I'll be able to put together my raised bed in the garage. At least, most of it.

Picture of one I made last year. I bought the corrugated steel, but all the wood frame was from scrap lumber I had sitting behind the garage. I did not have any 8 foot long 2X4s, so these garden beds are 4X4 feet, but I think just as good. The corrugated steel was about $22.00 per panel. It took me one panel, cut in half to 4 feet and then cut in half height to 13 inches tall, to make each of the 4X4 foot beds. Because I just used scraped lumber, each corrugated panel raised bed came in at less than $25 each.
