What did you do in the garden today?

Afternoon all. The storms yesterday produced hail to the north of us, and hail and a tornado to the south.... and it drizzled here. :hmm My dad was out beforehand frantically throwing blankets and lawn chair cushions and the special cover all on his new truck. I swear he loves that thing as much as his grandkids.

It rained just enough to take all the dust in the atmosphere and drop it in the form of mud on the cars. So! I had to water last night after all. More stuff is coming up. Cucumbers are sprouting, along with some okra. My fig tree! Oh my goodness, the fig tree I thought was totally dead is sprouting back from the roots. Now the million dollar question: Is it sprouting as a fig or something else? 🤣 I need to see if Stark Bros grafts their fig trees, lol.

The neighbor's cats, from the same litter as our new indoor kitty, have started hanging around at our house. They have soooo many fleas. 😢 I managed to get flea drops on one of them today (I call him Fluff Daddy, he's a huge fluffy white and orange boy), and he decided I'm his friend now. I think I'll have hubby ask if the neighbors have fixed the cats or not, and if not we'll look into low cost programs in the area. I think they're essentially skittish-friendly strays that wander between three house that put out food but don't get any care otherwise... I hate to see a cat with ears bloody from scratching at dang fleas. Can't tolerate it. Plus I don't want fleas in my garden and potentially jumping up on me. (The whole "yard" where they hang out is turning slowly into garden, so that's part of what I did in my garden today)

Ok so 80s again today...50-60s at night.
I am trying to catch up from vacation last week and get seeds in pots and ground.
Question is am I wasting my time planting them in the middle of the day?
I've been seeding as directed and then very thin layer of mulch and soaking them in well.
I just didn't know if that'll kill em and it so hot or if they'll do fine.
I know you aren't supposed to water during hot part of the day cuz it will bake the plants...wasn't sure if same for seeds.

I don't know about Stark Bros but most figs in my area don't need a different root stock so none of mine are grafted (bought thru az rare fruit growers from california nursery in 2018).

I plan to do some grafting onto those figs so I have 3-in-1 trees but haven't got to it yet.

I've had some fig cutting in unheated greenhouse for a year in solo cups that I thought were dead and now have leaves again. Also a maple seedling in solo cup planted last year from a random seed in the driveway now is alive again.

I am officially GROSSED OUT.
I just got back from the city market.
I took a head of leafy green lettuce off the wall and another rolled down and landed on the rug they put under the lettuce, due to all the water from the misters.
I handed the head to the stock person that was close by refilling the peppers, and told them that it had fallen on the dirty carpet. I expected him to toss it in the compost bin box on the bottom of the trolly. Instead, he put it on the back of the cart. Ok, whatever, the box was full of peppers, maybe he doesn't mix things for accounting reasons.
So I keep shopping the produce section and another stock person reaches above the lettuce and puts up a new sign, and knocks another head onto the dirty rug.
He reached down, picked it up, and put it to the top of the pile.
:sick
Now I KNOW where my shoes had been 30 minutes earlier, walking through the alpaca barn and the CHICKEN HOUSE!
Lettuce anyone???
Then as I rounded the corner from the potatoes, out pops stock boy #1 from the back room with lettuce head #1 shaking water off. Obviously he ran it under some water.
You aren't washing barn and henhouse off with a quick rinse. And what ELSE was on that rug?
NASTY.

Last year, Sears replaced the blades on one of my mowers while fixing something else. Last Sunday, I took the mower for a spin (short mowing session to be sure it was running smoothly) while a handy friend was messing with another project here. She finished, and we went out for a while to keep her young daughter from boredom. Upon returning, she was messing with the mower, and commented on the blades needing sharpened.
Fast forward to Saturday. Something was very wrong with the mower. I mentioned it to my friend, and she went on about how she didn’t do anything to it. Finally, FINALLY she mentioned it having only one blade. :caf So today I got my un-trustworthy beagle (he’s professionally trained, but an idiot that ain’t never caught a rabbit), and went searching for the missing blade. First, it took a while to realize it would have flown pretty far since I know it was on in the beginning. Second, I remembered to check on the apple trees. They are full of buds. The rhubarb is coming along too. I see a lot of critters have been making a mess of my property. Groundhogs under the coop, probably deer in the yuccas (which I thought were supposed to repel deer!), and a suspected possum in the garage.
Closer to the house, I replanted some Romas now that it’s warmer, and they have a better chance of growing, and I hung up some hanging flowers on a shepherds hook.

Well did you find it??
