What did you do in the garden today?

I have a Minnesota style mailbox post that a wing plow can get under . Problem is IL. does not use wing plows much . So they do the shoulder with regular plow . Hit that box and tore it off the board and it flew 30 feet . Extra thick metal box about 1/16 inch thick . Solved snow impact but not plow impact . Really hard to straighten the thick metal . Farm implement got it this time . Shortened pipe arm 1 foot to move box back . Will see what that does . Have pull post to move it back more if needed . 25 years here and never hit by plow of farm implement before . That box was pricey .

I planted some last year and they never came up. I planted the rest of the seed packet this weekend so I guess I'll know in the next few weeks if they come up. But the ones I bought from Home Depot today should self-seed, even if my seeds don't sprout.
Good to know! I have one plant that we bought last year and it came back and is in full bloom! Just beautiful!
Sorry chimney is blocking view...I'm not up n at it today just yet lol!

Is that the ones that dig in the wood, I'm guessing?
Do they pollinate too or just dig holes lol?
My new run had a couple digging yesterday and I shooed em off but I'm sure they'll be back!
They bore through the wood in our barns. However they are pollinators, and I see them all summer in my garden.
My husband made me some traps but i just seem to catch bumblebees in them. I catch a few and feed them to the birds, then I take the trap jar off.
The main trap is by the house, bumblebees guard the lilac tree by the door and no one enjoys being assaulted trying to get in and out of the house.

Ok I have a raised garden bed 16' x 4' loaded with tomatoes, kale, spinach, lettuce, basil, onions and peppers.
I stuck my finger down nearly to knuckle and it is just barely moist enough at end of finger. Do I wait til it is bone dry there to water? Trying to judge when to water based on carazy forecast that changes and we may or may not get a drop of rain vs not over watering and causing root rot and fungus gnats (which ended up killing my cucumbers! )
Then do you do a soaking water or light water in the mornings?
Hubs got me a wand sprayer so I can avoid spraying the leaves like they say lol.

Protect these from any hint of frost. The other things you have listed will be ok, but tomatoes and peppers are total wimps. Oh, I'm not sure about basil... can someone else chime in here?

I can't put these two things out until Memorial Day weekend. Our last frost date is somewhere around mid-May, but I have too many to cover if we get a late rouge frost.

For a covering, a bed sheet spread over the tomato cages *should* be enough. I plant my pepper plant in tomato cages too, partly for this possibility. I have several old sheets saved as "frost sheets."

If you just have a few plants, and they aren't very big, another cover idea is to cut the bottom out of a gallon plastic milk jug. Leave the cap on, put the jug over the plant. If you have a chilly spell, this can keep them warmer. Don't forget them; a warm sunny day will cook the plants. You can take the cap off if you have a sunny day, but it's cool. That gives the heat a way to escape. Then if the night is going to be chilly again, put the cap back on. I've never actually done this, just read about it.

Yes, that's the bees! They destroyed the front of my coop. They do pollinate, but if they are too big to get in the flower they cut a hole in the bottom, steal the nectar & not pollinate anything. I plant to feed the bees, I over seed with clover, leave all the dandelions, plant butterfly weed & ragweed around the garden but those stupid bees can all die! :gig
