And I managed to get everyone fed before the big downpour came through!

Just need yo know bout watering.
Here's how I tell with my sandy soil:

Stick my index finger in the dirt up to the second knuckle.
Does it feel dry? Water.
Does it feel damp? Don't water.
Can't tell? Look at finger when I pull it out.
Is "dusty dirty?" Water.
Is it "damp dirty?" Don't water.

That's the best way I can describe it. :)

Just finished planting my beans . I have the native wild Columbine here . Mostly red with a little yellow inside . Not blooming yet but soon . Need to cleanup more of the garden . I usually wait until May 15 to transplant tomatoes . Due to age I started using a bulb planter auger to make holes standing up when transplanting .

I use the bulb plant thing too! it works pretty well but gets clogged up sometimes - mine is just manual hole shovel thing -- not an actual auger.

OK, so not anything that I planted, but we have a nice little patch of roughly 50 or so wild onions growing near the creek at the back of our property. I dig 1 or 2 up every now and then to use just like you would any onion/chives. The whole plant is usable, and this particular variety has a flavor that strikes me as a combination of a Spanish onion and a mild garlic. Very tasty. I'm being sparing with them until after they bloom and produce seeds so we'll continue having them every year, hopefully.
