What did you do in the garden today?

Amazing what a difference there is from far North of the country to pretty much far South.

Watermelon is sprouting!

I've been drinking a cup for lunch everyday. Some people swear by it, & my joints could use all the help they can get, but I have a feeling it's just another one of those fad things.
DP drinks it when her stomach is giving her trouble as well as her joints. Darned if I know if it actually helps but at least it's tasty. :)

Four new raised beds, made from one of the freebie construction crates from work, treated with plain linseed oil. I still need to level and fill them.
They look good and so do the rest of your garden shots.

Dark cloudy and cold again today, with more rain.
Same here, it's nasty out right now. Days like this it just doesn't seem to get warm, even inside. Of course I'd probably feel warmer if I wasn't drinking iced coffee.

The tomatoes I put out too early are actually getting their feet under them, they've stopped looking like cold children that were shoved outside by parents who want a little peace in the house, "go get some fresh air!" The squash in the greenhouse are growing fast, I hope it'll be a little warmer before I have to plant them. A lot of the tomatoes have sprouted and a few of the peppers and cucumbers.

Raining here all day just cold out .. I am a optimist tank top with light sweatshirt hoodie on .. Put the hood up I am a hoodlum :celebrate
We had to go 35 mile to get a belt for our yard tractor but go back in tomorrow we will have it. Did buy fresh carrot seeds seems mine ran amuck .
No gardening but will scrape the tables in my coop.
Sold 2 birds today

Starting Monday, we move from spring into summer, BAM! 77 Monday, and 80 the rest of the work week. We go from being below average temps to above average. Stuff isn't going to sprout, it's going to explode!

Speaking of sprouting, I have 14 onions (in a row of 30 sets planted) that are peaking out. These are Stuttgarter, and I planted them about a week or so ago. The Red Baron haven't peaked out yet.

Most of the tomato pots in the green house have a sprout. I cut a bunch of spinach, kale, and lettuce today. I'm going to have to leave the door open next week so that things don't cook in there. With only some filtered sunlight, it was 81 in there today.

Lettuce and spinach grow box experiment, so far so good!View attachment 3093149Potatoes sprouting in a raised bed - I also have some in grow boxes, to experiment which method gets better results.

Big fail with my peas - only two sprouts out of a whole bed, of old seeds. I'll plant pole beans around them and see if the peas do anything.
I'm jealous. I can never get chives to look like that....

Even small businesses are throttled by local, state, federal regulations and permits.
True...but in some states, the politicians like to roll back regulations to make themselves look good in a crisis. For example, back in 2008 when gas prices reached about what they are today, our local legislators suspended taxes on gasoline for a period of time. Of course, the situation is much worse today and they aren't suspending anything because they spent way too much money on the pandemic.... But still, the point being, if the food supply chain is collapsing, they *could* (in theory) reduce or pardon the regulations that would keep local farmers & coops from creating fertilizer that could be used on crops to feed people.

When people can't feed their families, work, or keep a roof over their heads....well, history shows us that tends to lead towards revolution (French, Russian, and American style). It would behoove the political elite to ensure that people aren't starving to death, at a minimum.

Yep...supposed to reach 90 here by early next week. Nothing like lots of heat after 4-6" of rain to make conditions ripe for mold... ugh. Now I'm gonna have to start watching for downy mildew, et al.

oh oh oh....I forgot something! A couple of years ago, I purchased a Shittake mushroom log from Gurney's. I noticed on Tuesday that it appears to have grown a mushroom!!! :celebrate Of course, I have no idea how to remove the mushroom from the log without killing its chances of coming back next year???? Anyone ever grown those before?
