Who has a good recommendation on one of those stand up weed puller tools? I remember we talked about it a year or 2 ago, but I can't remember which one y'all said was good...
Finally planted everything outside today! I triple checked the forecast to make sure it didn’t get below freezing here again, so far it looks good.
Here’s some pics:
First we planted flowers in the front yard. So technically not a garden, but I wanted to share anyway because I’m excited lol.
I wanted to plant the flowers on the top shelf ^ in the backyard but my mom insisted we wait until the flowers die. She didn’t want to plant them while the flowers were alive because she wants everyone driving by to enjoy them
Then we planted an Azalea bush
Now finally the actual garden!
We planted three tomato plants (all different kinds), peppers, and basil. And we put some sunflowers in the back of the garden, just until they’re big enough and strong enough so the bunnies don’t eat them. And there’s also rhubarb and fennel in the garden. You can see the rhubarb to the right.
And then to the right of the shed I planted my pumpkin/squash/cantaloupe/zucchini/ cucumber patch. We don’t have the cantaloupe, zucchini, or cucumbers yet, but I will get them soon.
I also planted my strawberries! I didn’t get a great picture but here it is anyway. They’re in the box thing.
That’s what my mom and I did in the garden today for Mother’s Day! Thanks for reading!
I pulled three buckets of weeds today. I gave them to the chickens. The very first spear of asparagus is up, about 2 inches. So far, we've had cilantro and the chive/green onion part of Egyptian Walking Onions out of the garden. Usually the first thing I "harvest" is lambs quarter, ie, weeds.
In the green house, my tomato starts are plentiful, but tiny because I had to wait so long to plant them. I hope they do a bit of catching up this next week when it's sunny and in the low 80s. I'll have to open the green house door to keep the temp down.
Then the next week, we have a big cool down coming, back to the 50s and 60s.
I really, really want a good harvest of tomatoes this year...
We'll be in the low 90s all week and a chance of storms every day, so I took advantage of a foggy 70, with flies and gnats to transplant up tomatoes. I managed 50 before I ran out of soil fill. I have about another 125 to go, so I'll pick up some more tomorrow and get them done as fast as I can as sale day is June 1st, and I'd like them to sprout up some more first.
The ones in the hoophouse are growing like weeds.
I pulled the peas and greenbeans. It's too hot for them in there. I'll plant fresh in the garden proper tomorrow, the greenbeans.
I mowed and moved tomatoes to go outside tomorrow to Harden off . Took it easy as I was tired from yesterday . Heat coming so maybe beans will come up . No frost in forecast . I usually consider May 15 frost free here no matter what they say . Some squash seeds sprouted in baggies . Those went in May 2 so fast .
