What did you do in the garden today?

Good evening gardeners. I tried to reserve an auger but the site wasn’t working, which then required a trip to Home Depot after work so we can pick it up early tomorrow. Went for a few groceries, then went to get fuel for my vehicle. Holy cow! $60.00 later and I’m thankful a tank lasts me a few months. I picked up a couple of pots for the mulberries and I have a five gallon bucket full of stuff for the compost pile and ordered an inoculant for the beans. The second banana tree is on its way and now there’s very limited space at the inn! This weekend is going to be super busy, but I’m so excited to get the trees into the ground. I’ve decided to plant them in a row with the vitex at the far west end so they’ll eventually cast shade on the fruit trees in late afternoon. :fl

So, everything seems to be ok in the garden except for the tomatoes.
I used a new grow light to grow them, and it won't be used again to start plants.
I picked up some things at the Greenhouse today. A lot of tomatoes and a couple other flowers/plants/herbs. $90 worth.
The tomatoes I bought today: Husky Cherry, Supersweet 100 Cherry, Champion, Roma, and Mortgage Lifter.
The tomatoes that I grew that are doing good: Heatmaster. The tomatoes that are a maybe: Terra Cotta.

See what I mean about needing to weed :th

Yesterday, I got all the dried manure moved around! That was quite the job in the heat. It’s not all mixed in yet as I’ll need a rototiller lesson before using it -last time I used it personally, was 2 years ago. But, I’ll hand mix with a pitchfork in the raised beds. I did manage to spread it out over the top of the two large raised beds (20x30 each) to prep for the tiller use.

Rain possible today, tonight, but looks to be more likely tomorrow/tomorrow night.

Looking forward to finally planting more things soon!

A tale of two garlics:

This bed has spring shipped garlic. I received the heads, I broke off cloves and planted them. Typical routine for garlic!

This bed has 3 types of bulblets planted. The bulblets are produced at the top of the garlic plant. I received quite a lot of bulblets for $3.50 each packet, so very cost effective compared to buying a specific variety of heads of garlic. I posted a pic of them a few months ago. These should produce a single clove this year, and I’m to cure them a bit, then plant them this fall-I’ll get a head of garlic next year.

Such a different look!! It makes me laugh. Interestingly, the tiny ones are all three different leaf sizes. The one on the left is seen pretty well, then the one on the far right is very tiny and thin. We’ll see what happens in a few months!!

Any experienced garlic growers: how does the garlic in the first pic look to you? And should I be thinning them at some point? Also, could a clove send up two stalks? I’m positive I tried to space out the cloves, but in a few spots there are stalks close together…might be that two cloves are close, but I don’t have any experience here.

@Acre4Me they can send up 2 stalks, but they are usually pretty close together & it results in sort of 2 cloves underground, one bigger, one smaller or they look sort of deformed growing together. They end up perfectly fine to use though, no biggie. The other possibility, & what happens to me, is the stupid squirrels come in & dig & move them around before they're really established. :idunno

Your garlic looks good, looks about the same size as my fall planted. I plant mine pretty close & always get great sized bulbs, it's never been an issue.

I'll grab a pic of mine when I go out. Mine is 3rd or 4th gen now, I always save a couple of the biggest bulbs & plant them in the fall.

Mine looks similar! But, currently, the main weeds I pay attention to are dock, bind weed and dandelions that are large. There are certain ones they pop into our beds too, but not usually as problematic.
I'm still pulling up alfalfa, from 5 years ago. THE SAME alfalfa plants as 5 years ago. HUGE LONG roots.
Lovely morning. Need to feed everything, toss some nitrogen on the onions.
Then I'm out of food for them, and I need mulch for the garden walks.
The barn and paddock need blown free of debris.
Beyond that it's just a bunch of odds and ends. Signs need sealed. Decals need made.
Stuff and things.
Have a great day all.
