What did you do in the garden today?

Pear graft onto hawthorn . Starting to grow .
Stem cuttings starting to grow . Yellow from black raspberry . Natural wild mutation .

Spinach was a bust again this year . Started bolting before leaves were big enough to pick . Bolting is day length triggered . We do not get enough heat most years to get a crop .

Looks great I'm going to try stem cuttings from grapes this year my raspberry are taking off fast and my red lake current and black lake currents are doing great as well.... I do cheat when I plant them I use left over feild fertilizer from olanting corn sprinkle a little and water they shoot right up healthy and strong

Just stuck some azalea cuttings and some rose, phlox and fushia cuttings. Also potted up some cardinal flower, hardy hibiscus and creeping phlox.

I planted corn in my kiddie pool! I don't know that I'll actually get corn, but I thought I'd try. I've always heard you have to plant corn in rows to pollinate. Word case, I get no corn, which is no worse than the first attempt. Lol! I also sowed more spinach, planted a couple of butternut squash and zucchini, some mint (in pots), and put some sluggo and fertilizer around some things, etc. I do have 9 squares in one of my square foot raised beds I need to fill. I may go plant shopping and see if anything looks worthwhile. I think it's too late for peas. My poor broccoli is 2-months old and still only 2-3 inches tall! Too much rain and too little sun, I guess.

ETA: Can't seem to upload photo of the kiddie pool. The pool has holes for drainage, and I filled 6 reusable shopping bags with dirt. Similar to what @Leahs Mom did, I think.

We plant corn in blocks and it works well. It should pollinate fine in the pool. You can pollinate it manually as well just to make for sure. Just break off part of the tassels and dab them on the new silks as they first emerge from the ear.

I plant my corn in rows: 2 rows, each a foot apart, followed by a row or two of potatoes, then 2 more rows of corn. I can reach through to harvest the corn on the inside rows, get the potatoes hilled up with hay and grass clippings, then they coast along till the corn is finished. Not at all difficult to sneak a few new spuds from the end of the rows. Both crops are heavy feeders, and have complimentary needs. Seem to do well together, and it saves room. Many folks say they don't have room to plant corn. But, if you plant it 12" o.c. with an other crop in the middle, not much space tied up at all.

Today, I started planting tomatoes. Slow going, hand digging each hole through decomposing sod. Adding compost, fertilizer, epsom salt, and a bit of permethrin to discourage ants and cutworms. Cukes starting to sprout. Lettuce, marigolds and dill planted in front of the cukes sprouting as well.

I agree! Many things can be planted among corn rows so one can stack crops in that space and corn doesn't take up any more room than each stalk needs. I've got melons and pumpkins planted in my corn and later will plant runner beans there so they can use the corn stalks as trellising. Later on I'll be planting lettuce under the shade and space of the corn as well.

My garden is too small to get much of a corn crop but at least I'm producing something to eat from the upper story of the garden. I do single rows about 18 in. apart, so only have three rows of corn in my garden that are around 35 ft. long but I can expect to get 2-3 ears of corn off each stalk, so that's not too bad when you consider I'd get no corn at all from that space if I hadn't planted the corn. In that same space I'm getting all kinds of other food as well. Then those corn stalks will be placed in my coop to compost down into good garden food for next spring.
