What did you do in the garden today?

It is fun to say, "Rutabaga!"

My grandmother loved it. I can't recall what it tastes like. I'd love a report on your when you get some. The only variety I know of by name is "Joan."

The 6 varieties I’m planting. We planted Joan variety last year.

“Wilhemsberger Glebe” 🤣
“Nadmorska”
“Helenor”
“Navone Yellow”
“Marian”
“Magres”

I’ll plant more soon. They are yummy to the cabbage looper, so if that is an issue - than anyone that wants to grow them should be prepared to spray with Bt to curtail those hungry green caterpillars, or to cover with netting to exclude the moth.

Fresh, tiny, and they look delicious!

We have some strawberries here, but those darn bunnies keep eating them all! Wild blackberries are almost ready for picking, though!
I'm amazed the wild bunnies and deer and birds haven't eaten them all! We also have large patches of them in our woods, so maybe they are full before they get over there. My pupper likes strawberries, and sniffed out the patch in the yard yesterday. I don't mind, it's a better snack for her than wild animal poo! She has a SUPER sniffer. My husband told me a few weeks ago, after we had come in from a woods walk and he let her out, that she had her nose to the ground and followed the exact path that we had walked!

The raspberry beds are finished! These will go between the fruit trees along the driveway to the barn. They are 6’x4’. Plenty of space between the trees. Just need dirt. We have the plants to put in them already.

Then I removed and scrubbed the clear panels on the chicken pen. These panels work well to block the rain. The White Plymouth Rocks inside are 8 weeks old. Mostly male as ordered. We have been feeding them 22% meat chicken feed, so they are a nice size for 8 weeks, and we plan to butcher in about 8 more weeks.

Then, spouse made shade panels that can slide in when needed. They are made from cedar fence posts he found on clearance a year or two ago. They look nice!

Panel track questions:
Where did you get them?
Do they let the panels rattle like crazy in the wind? or are they pretty solid?

Husband made them. The fixed part on the exterior of the shed is made up of a 1-1.5” board (that creates the space and support), then another piece that is beveled (top piece) or separated from the first board with plastic washers (bottom piece, allows water to leave)-and these keep the slide in panels against the shed. The wood panels are 1/2” thick, and there is enough room to slide a wood panel in front of a plastic panel (plastic corrugated roof/wall panel). However, we normally keep the plastic panel from rattling using a foam strip (solid, not for a pipe) pushed between panel and lip. A thick piece of mulch is also handy for the task.

I’ll take a few pics when out there again.

I wonder if we can start a yogurt culture with Rosemary? I started one with chili pepper, lime leaf, and I just put a few Lavender flower in a cup of hot milk, out of curiosity. If it works, it will be flavorful.
Lavender didn't work.............................I am done messing around. I already have a chili pepper starter on the forth run, so the pepper taste is gone.

Any dog is a potential threat to your flock as all dogs have a prey drive to some degree. Start with a puppy that you can train from a young age. Know your dog and how much control you have over it. We can generalize all day, but in the end it’s about your relationship with your dog, and the effort you put into it.
Yes, I believe there are quite a few threads on this subject. I have a Great Pyrenees/Husky mix. She is 2 1/2 yrs old now. As a pup around a year old, she caught and killed two of my chicks. Because of that, I refused to trust her around them. Well, so far this summer, I've lost count how many times a chick or adult has gone into our back yard which is fenced for the dogs. It's like literally EVERY DAY. She could care less. She doesn't even bother getting up anymore if she's laying down or napping.

Good morning all. I had a massive headache last night and was falling asleep by 1800. The teenager was gone, hubs was late and the little dude made cereal for dinner. I’m a terrible Grammy. But I was up at 0300 putting the soaker hose around the fruit trees and they’re getting water now.
Not a "terrible" Grammy-gotta make sure you take care of yourself so that you can take care of others, self-care!

Not too much today, rained most of yesterday and today is 70s, breezy with no humidity. Weeded yesterday and succession planted some cucumber seeds.
