What did you do in the garden today?

I wonder if this is why I struggle with squash. I can grow them if I use water reservoirs but getting fruit has been hard. They go into wilt daily even with a reservoir. I'll have to try planting them earlier or later to see when they can be happy here.

It could be....Have you tried a shade cloth perhaps to block the hottest part of the day? My plants, with the exception of ONE, all look big and luscious. I've been watering them at dawn every 2-3 days. They are very green, no mildew or anything like that....And I have pulled about 6-8 zucchini off already. The one I harvested yesterday was bigger than my forearm! So I know they are capable of producing. I can only determine that they've dialed back on the female flowers because of the heat.

Quick harvest before the storms roll through. Picked a bunch of Swiss chard this morning. Just ran out and picked the first radishes & garlic scapes of the season! Im going to sautee the scapes and radishes in oil, then add chard and chick peas just long enough to wilt it!

Nooooo. My poor BROCCOLI!!! 😭
Havent had a chance to check on the garden the last 2 days. Came home with pigs this weekend and they kept escaping.
Walk over and the gate is open and a groundhog was booking it out the otherside. I have 6 plants in a diffent bed but its too late to find more starts!

Also I seem to be about 30 pages behind. Prolly gonna skip it.

I read an article yesterday that said squash will stop producing one gender of flower (either female or male) if they are too hot. Given that we've been over 100 degrees for the past week and it's likely to continue for at least another 10+ days, I'm watching mine closely. So far, I've noticed that female flowers actually have declined. I have 5 zucchini plants and in the past 2-3 days, I've gotten ONE female flower out of the bunch.
Still no rain in the forecast for the next 10 days forward which means we will go a full 2+ weeks with no rain and temps over 100 degrees (heat index) every single day. This is really abnormal for June.
Hey we r in neighboring states...when it is this hot out and no rain r u watering every single day?

No, I'm watering every other day. However, I have a few plants that are in pots rather than in the ground. Those I am watering every day. And if anything looks wilted, I'll water that too.... So far the only thing that is wilting by the evening is the loofah that's in a pot. Everything else looks decent but I'm also deep watering when I water every other day. It takes me an hour to water the garden.

That's bout what I'm doin too...I do have baby zucchini plants I had just put in ground...they are wilted mid day. So idk if they'll make it 🤔.
@Gammas Bearded Babies - btw, I meant to tell you how much I LOVED your POW of the Silkie babies. Too cute!
Awe thank you!

And if anyone is curious, (This is pretty basic and anyone who knows snakes should know.) but some people might not, and it can be a little confusing.

Poisonous means if you bite it.

Venomous means if it bites you.

I would just love to go on about hognose snakes, so if anyone wants to know about them, please ask. Would be happy to share details of hognose or any snakes, and morphs.
Yes! Finally someone bringing this up! :ya For some reason it bothers me when I'm reading a snake book (for example) and it says, 'These snakes are poisonous.' I actually find hognoses really interesting (I'm hoping to get one as a pet soon) with their little upturned snouts and their rear-fang venom. Their morphs are also really cool, especially lavender!

Although I'm pretty much watching YouTube videos about them all day, I would honestly love to read about hognose snakes from you, so I'm all ears!
