What did you do in the garden today?

I haven't been out to the garden in a week because of my foot. Kind of afraid to look...

Oh, and I lost my entire summer harvest of tomatoes. My own fault though... They were in the refrigerator. I thought DH was going to make salsa. He thought I was making tomato sauce. Neither of us got around to doing it and everything got moldy. 😒 I know I should be upset about it but right now I just can't bring myself to care very much. It's all getting composted instead... The tomatoes weren't in great shape to begin with because the drought and crazy spring that jumped from 50 degrees to 90 in a week. I have 3 new plants that I started about a month ago in 5 gallon buckets in partial shade. They are starting to flower so hopefully I will get some good results soon.

I wish I didn't have a family of picky eaters... Especially when it comes to vegetables. They won't eat any winter squash. Heck, they don't eat nearly anything but corn, peppers, and onions. I still grow other things anyway because I like them....like carrots, broccoli, zucchini, etc.
My hubby's like that. Drove me nuts when we were young! Now we're old and he hasn't changed a bit...well, he's added fermented peppers, onions and cabbage to his list of edibles 😂.

I've had plants live for quite a while with a svb, it doesn't always kill them right away.

I got 5 jars of dilly beans done - 1 burst in the canner. :barnie I haven't had that happen in a very long time.

& I have 10 pints of the tomato soup. 1 canner just shut off, the other is not far behind. That'll be a good amount of soup for cold, snowy days come this winter. I really like the recipe @WthrLady, not full of sugar or other things like carrots & celery - nice & simple so I can taste my tomatoes. So thank you for sharing. I did roast the tomatoes & mill them since I didn't have any already processed.
Happy you liked it. It's simple enough you can tweak it to your taste and the level of zoom your tomatoes have.

Took the long, hot walk down to the garden. The one remaining zucchini plant had collapsed. I was only keeping it alive because I had a giant fruit on it that I'm hoping to collect seeds from. Hasn't turned orange and stripey yet but hopefully it is far enough along to provide viable seeds.

Lots of peppers need to be collected. Got a few sprouts from the cauliflower seeds.

The green beans, spaghetti saush, pumpkin, and watermelon have all sprouted too... I realize that the curcubits may not get to fully ripen before the first hard frost but it's such a crap shoot down here I thought I'd try anyway.

I'm not a big fan either but it makes great apple squash soup ;)

question--as long as my total amounts stay the same as a relish recipe can I mix up the ratio or onions and peppers? I would rather have more peppers than onions?
I would guess you can do whatever makes your mouth happy.

Tonight, I hope to find any remaining hornworms. There have to be more than 2, right?

I pulled out my cucumbers and radishes today.
My cucumbers and Ananas-whoevencareswhattherestofthenameisatthispoint melons either got a virus of some kind, or they didn't get enough water. The leaves became yellow-spotted, then all yellowy, then died. The leaves at the ends of the vines were healthy, though, so I think disease. And the cucumbers didn't give me many cucumbers at all. I left the melons in because they don't look as bad and actually have fruits on them.

The radishes I pulled because I tried them a few weeks back, and wasn't a fan. I'm going to try a few recipes with them, but if I don't like them, I won't grow them again and will have to give them to someone who wants the three packs of seeds I have. They were also making it difficult to see how the carrots are doing.

It gets disappointing when you don't get good yields on stuff, or it ends up dying off of something you can't quite figure out, but you DID get some good stuff out of it so there is that to be happy for and to enjoy !

I never was a big fan of radishes and when I ever did grow them, it was at the request of / and for someone else.
