What did you do in the garden today?

I’m fine with donating to someone’s cause that way.
Im absolutely ALL for this as well. If someone is taking another mans trash and making a living off it, then god bless you I will help you as much as you can !!

The only time I have 'issues' with this is when they make a mess in the trash and don't want to clean it up. You want to root through my trash go ahead but don't you EVEN think you are going to dump a can over and leave that laying on the street !!! You will do that ONCE, then the next week, I'll be waiting for you to have a little word concerning your 'Trash Manners'

Don't get me wrong, Ive been dumpster diving since I was 12, I AM a pro at it, even to this day, but there are certain behaviors you need to follow. A few bad apples ruin it for everyone. That goes for Dumpster Divers, Metal Detectors, I can name a few 'Hobbies' where morons have ruined it.

If you genuinely ARE a person of the 'recycle whenever you can' mentality. There are web groups, I believe it is called 'freecycle.com' where people post stuff for others to come pick up but I found that over the years it got kind of too Karen'd out and sadly and disgustingly even political.

I am also a big appliance recycler too., I have all the permits to reclaim Freon from old AC units so I CAN dispose of the stuff properly AND get top dollar for the metal too because it IS clean.

Good afternoon gardeners. We didn’t get over to the park until after the sun was up, which is ok it wasn’t too bad yet and the dogs are nice and tired. Got some groceries and water, ice for the chickens, cleaned out the fridge and made smoked deviled eggs for a snack. Also took a cutting from both of my pothos and the bigger heart leaf philodendron and rearranged plants. The mirror that I keep behind the plant stand got broken and I couldn’t find a suitable replacement so I’m using one of those reflective car windshield things behind it for now. We have a few more days of the heat before temps drop to around 100 and our storm chances return by the end of the week. I’m happy our temps will cool by next weekend, there’s still a bunch to do out back and I’m itching to get it all cleaned up so I can get other projects done out there.
I too am chomping at the bit to get the yard & patio cleaned up. As soon as those Temps drop, I've got plenty to do!

Also want to plant fruit trees (not sure where yet), and then some Bay Laurel shrubs on the south side of the chicken run.

My elevated garden beds are waiting to be planted too.

One of my dogs just came up...think she's getting ready for Halloween a little early. :lau

Talked to the tomatoes. More need to start ripening. I took a bunch to the beagle club last weekend and used my last ripe one for lunch today.
They got the message, and once again I am picking tomatoes.

I’ve been on freecycle here, it’s pretty hit and miss but I love the concept. Fortunately most of the people here are pretty courteous. I did catch one person that was going to leave after putting things out in the street to get to what she wanted. I asked her to please clean up before she left, then stayed and watched that she did. So I agree those folks are annoying.

Cardboard has worked well for me. I hate weed cloth too, the weeds seem to be able to grow up through it, then you end up with plastic shreds in the garden. The cardboard does eventually break down, but several layers of cardboard covered with wood chips, keeps the weeds away enough so that weeding is easy for the next couple years
If it's crabgrass cardboard even interlaced together and double stacked then wood chips put down don't phase it...stinkin crabgrass finds its way in and around and has completely covered large areas DH and I had done just a few months ago! I'm so disappointed and frustrated at how all that hard work is just crabgrass now! I tried to pull it up as it would make its way in and around but it's faster than me!
They got the message, and once again I am picking tomatoes.
Can you talk to mine please! 😃
