What did you do in the garden today?

Thought you might like to know that plastic pots can recycle..at least in Tucson so maybe where you are too. There might be a nursery that'll take and reuse the pots plants come in too. Where I am there's Desert Survivers. They keep a huge bin out front where you can drive up and drop off pots.

Is there anything that will get rid of this insanely growing vine that takes over everything?!
Well, for me it's digging clumps up with a shovel. I pile the weeds and let them die in the sun. However, I bet the seeds will still be viable, so I may just make a pile in the field to dump them on. I gotta say, I really fell short on the weeding this year. :(
I'm STILL dealing with Japanese Beetles if anyone was wondering. September!!!
Yes, me too! I've seen a few every day. Dingblasted things!

Some have splits. The rest I’ll put out in the bulk trash in Spring and they’ll be gone before the trash truck shows up. They always are.

The plastic pots, most the nursery's around here resell them to people, even used. If it splits then it goes into the trash.

I have a friend who runs a plastic recycling center, it's fairlys mall here in Jax, and can sometimes get my hands on stuff coming in. I tell you when those garden buckets come in, I have ZERO problem getting rid of them at all. I'll pay him premium price for them, (which is squat really) then flip them for a nice profit or I'll just donate them to the farm I work on.

Another item that's a huge seller / reseller / can't get hold of barely is clean 5 gallon buckets. By clean I mean food items or whatever were in them and NOT something toxic like paint or axle grease. Those I'll barter with the guy at one of the chicken places who sells chickens to people and trade for feed or stuff like that. Plastic containers in general that are not tore up or got nasties in them, you should have NO problem getting rid of at all.

Good afternoon gardeners. We didn’t get over to the park until after the sun was up, which is ok it wasn’t too bad yet and the dogs are nice and tired. Got some groceries and water, ice for the chickens, cleaned out the fridge and made smoked deviled eggs for a snack. Also took a cutting from both of my pothos and the bigger heart leaf philodendron and rearranged plants. The mirror that I keep behind the plant stand got broken and I couldn’t find a suitable replacement so I’m using one of those reflective car windshield things behind it for now. We have a few more days of the heat before temps drop to around 100 and our storm chances return by the end of the week. I’m happy our temps will cool by next weekend, there’s still a bunch to do out back and I’m itching to get it all cleaned up so I can get other projects done out there.

I use all my buckets until they die. The plastic plant pots from the big box stores I keep and reuse but there’s only so much space for storage. Putting them at the curb is a very good way to recycle them. People literally drive around the neighborhood with a trailer hooked up to their pickup and look through stuff for whatever. I’m fine with donating to someone’s cause that way.

Harvested some squash today

@Ascholten
They love them! Normally I leave em alone but this year they've gone nuts...it's like wading through a jungle of spiderwebs out there. The chickens will only reduce them a little since so many web up high.❤️
I do know those nanner spiders WILL give you a nasty bite too !! I try to leave them alone but yah when they start getting too thick, yep time to cull them a bit.
