What did you do in the garden today?

I can barely keep up with harvesting and preserving and it's only the first week in August! I like carrots best in the baby stage while they are still tender and have no blemishes. My favorite variety this year is Calliope Blend.

I keep skins on baby carrots. Scrubbed well before cutting up to blanch. Diced or sliced.

I blanch them for four or five minutes until tender. Then shocked in ice water and into the freezer. Sweet and tender, all they need is heat and serve or throw them into a stew. Best glazed and served along side a roast in my opinion.

Got tomatoes, cukes, hot and sweet peppers picked and preserved :)

Planted some Tomatillos, Peppers and Beans.Moved some Plant pots from the backyard in the frontyard and getting start to move some Rocks in the chickenrun and get it ready for my chuckars.

Dug up Purple Majesty and La Soda potatoes. Harvested a lot of things to enter in the local county fair. And picked the biggest Cinderella pumpkin!

Judging is today. Fair opens Thursday.

The Cinderella Pumpkin is so cute. When I carried it into the barn, every one stopped and stared! They all thought it wonderful.

Harvested Leeks, baby carrots, peppers, and baby beets. Blanched, chilled, quartered the beets and carrots and got them into the freezer. Put the leeks into the soup kettle to make leek broth to freeze for winter use.

Young leeks trimmed and covered with water and a little bit of olive oil. cooked down and strained before freezing. A good broth for sipping from a mug on cold winter days.

I walked through on my way to the car ignoring the screams of the thousands of eggplants that I don't know what to do with anymore. Also picked Basil and made pesto for supper.
Oh I love eggplants. I know some good recipes with them. When you are interested just PM me.

I planted today my Passion Fruit Vines around the chicken run.
