What did you do in the garden today?

we cut back on watering to save the well as my downhill neighbors have been watering their lawns for 12-16 hours a day ALL SUMMER
We have a well too so I try to alternate and not water everything at one time but stagger it out through the week. 12-16 hrs a day is ridiculous. That's a lot of water!

Speaking of potatoes, I noticed the tire planters that I used for red potatoes in the spring have all resprouted. I left behind tiny pearl sized potatoes if/when I came across them. Wondering how many potatoes I might get from them or if I should just let them overwinter?
Do you see any flowers yet?

Wooly aphids are really doing a number on my Japanese eggplant. They didn't grow all year until about a month ago. They finally started putting on flowers and I even have a few fruit developing... Now the plants are dropping leaves like crazy. I have sprayed them with neem/insecticidal soap several times over the past few weeks and it isn't slowing them down in the least. I even added chili powder in an attempt to dissuade them from coming back! About to break out the Sevin dust as a last resort... Cringing to make this call because of all the spiders in there but if I don't I will end up losing my plants.

It was an awful dry summer here too - I've never watered so much in my life. Thankfully the rains came a couple weeks ago & I haven't had to water since. We are on a shared well with about 30 others, but we live in the woods so no one really waters their lawns here. They did drill a new well down at the pump house a couple weeks ago, not sure if it was because of the drought & they had to or if it was planned.

My tree came, have to get that in the ground tomorrow. Will be a busy week at work after a few weeks off.

I'm pretty over the garden at this point, bring on the snow. :gig

Yep it is. I deep watered the orchard once a week, just to keep the trees alive. We pulled all the fruit to reduce tree stress.
I watered the garden every 3rd day, each plant has it's own drip line at the ground to prevent waste evaporation.
Besides livestock watering and super high efficiency water appliances in the house, that's all we used.
UPSIDE, I've only had to mow 4 times all summer! LOL
Neighbors are out there once a week, gas $$$.
