What did you do in the garden today?

I caught 2 raccoons this spring in a live trap. I used peanut butter in a dish, so they couldn't pull it through the bars of the cage. Also, put it far enough back that they have to go in and step on the activator plate, but not right up against the end.

Do you have a way to get rid of them if you catch one? I shot mine, but you said you can't do that where you live.
Sally did you really? :highfive:

I cleaned my coop today and noticed some poop with dead worms so I went ahead and wormed most of my chickens. Ran out of wormer and couldn't reach about 10 of them. I also need an easy way to identify who got wormed and who didn't. Hard to keep track when you have 60+ chickens and a bunch of them look the same. 🙄
There is a livestock marker sticks or spray.

I also use Pour-on Ivermectin. I have a few birds who have picked up scaly leg mites on occasion. They are next to impossible to eradicate. I have sprayed down roosts, coop walls, nesting boxes, changed nesting box bedding, etc. Not all my birds have them. Just a couple... At least I assume they have them because their feet are not smooth or look terrible. None of them seem to be itchy or in any pain though. I've treated them sooooo many times with poultry spray for mites, Ivermectin, Vaseline, and mineral oil.
Maybe they just have rough feet?

Crap! We had a bear try to get the chickens last night. It tore the sandwiched hardware cloth off & got into the little 'secure' run but thankfully didn't tear the coop apart, which it easily could have. It destroyed about 4 pickets of wooden fence to get in the big run, then tore the hardware cloth to get into the little run. It was so close to getting them but it couldn't figure out the heavy metal pop door, thankfully. I'm surprised it just didn't tear the coop apart instead of all that work.

We're off to get electric fence because I'm sure it'll be back again tonight. I wish I knew ANYTHING about electric fencing! It's going to be a crash course. Thankfully DH is home today.

How frightening! Is there any type of scent deterrent that might help temporarily?

Agh!!! I can't imagine! That is a lot of work he did! Will an electric fence deter him?
I'm so glad he didn't get to your flock though!!!
