That is welded wire fence lay Chicken wire but twice over .. Otherwise buy hardware cloth.

Thanks for the recipe @Acre4Me, I'll give that a try. Jam is on the stove reprocessing, it's up to 214 now. Buy the time it's gotten to 220 it will have cooked down a lot more. I'll make another batch, I love the stuff, the fresh ginger in it just makes it. I got the 2cf bags of good soil out of the car so I'll have room for the grocery run tomorrow.

Can't afford it. Have you looked at the price of chicken wire or hardware cloth lately? I bought a 3 ft x 25 ft roll of hardware cloth for the new duck coop and it was $64! Chicken wire isn't much cheaper. Even the smaller roles are over $20 and I have almost 200 ft to cover at a minimum.

Yep, very expensive up here too-I had to buy some hardware cloth when we added onto the chicken run this summer, I was not happy.

It poured over night... First DECENT rain we've had since early August. I haven't checked the rain gauge but I'm guessing we got MAYBE an inch and a half of rain. I did a quick scan of the pasture by the barn to see if the new seed that I put down yesterday got washed away. Looks like it didn't but we'll see for sure if it germinates... I ordered 10 lbs of Berseem clover and 5 lbs of daikon radish. Going to scatter them around the pasture too to hopefully act like a cover crop, nitrogen fix, and forage all in one. I might buy some more Berseem clover to seed in the spring too.

Good afternoon gardeners. Rainy / drizzly yesterday and today. Not much accumulation, about 1/4 inch. I picked a few turnips yesterday to check their progress. There were 5 out of 6 that were a nice edible size. The greens aren’t that great looking but I took advantage of the light rain showers and left the greens on the picnic table to get a natural washing. I salvaged the good looking greens for consumption. The weather has been quite mild here and the peas are actually blooming. The temps are forecasted to remain mild with only very light frost over the next 10 days. So I’ll be leaving the carrots, turnips, kale and peas alone for now. I made bread today. Enough to last 3 weeks. Planning to get the garlic in the ground this weekend. Have a great day all.

Just got back after about a week in Cali. Before I left I picked off two squash blossoms I knew would be inedible when I returned. Came back to two more that are the perfect size, and the first of dozens of cucumbers. I still have pickles from last year so I don't know what I'm going to do with these! Garden wise I am alternating spraying BT for caterpillars and whey for the powdery mildew. I'm surprised there are no tomatoes yet, but they are flowering.
