What did you do in the garden today?

did you make it? sounds good to deter 2 legged predators, lol.
Yes I did, except I bought the coil pre wound, I do not have the tools to do that properly and it's real easy to bust like 30 ga wire when you are winding it w/o a lathe / feeder setup. Plus I don't have the patience for that TBH, it'd been very taxing on me, first time I popped the wire at 80 percent wound the thing would more likely been turned into a fire cracker...

Unfortunately they call it man trapping, but yes they are. Put one right in the inside of a window or door when you are away and someone breaks in and sets it off via your alarm system or motion detector and have the power cranked up, yes it's a very effective burglar be good device. You probably dont want electronics hooked up in the room if it's going to be popping 'things' that might bring it to ground via a wall that may have a receptacle in it but with some planning they are very effective.

However setting one up in the lawn as a display can be pretty cool too, just make sure you don't set it up over an underground power line or something. Running at a million plus volts, you don't want to puncture the insulation and get that into your house / neighbors house via the power lines.

nothing outdoor related today besides feeding critters.
82 degrees and winds howling to 50
=
truck issue was a blown catalytic converter
other one is on its way out
had other things done as well.

She's 10, but argh....never given me a drop of trouble, just things aging out
next month is all new tires, new belt, new battery and the other converter if she demands it

Still cheaper than a new truck, which cannot be had atm.

Your old cat, they are worth a LOT of money, make sure you get the old one back and look in the phone book, find someone to sell it to for scrap. Should get a few hundred dollars at least for it.

Been cracking walnuts and picking out the nut meats . A tough way to get nuts but I only do 2 - 4 buckets a year . Hulling you loose half the volume . So half done with the first hulled bucket . I crack then pick out at my leisure on a break or early in the morning .
My step-dad made a nutcracker from an old drill press. He'd sit out in his shop all day long cracking nuts.... 😂

Making green tomato jam and hot pepper jelly/jam (haven't decided on the recipe yet) today. Nothing much in the garden today, yesterday we put out a rat we'd trapped and our hawk came and got it. It's a young bird and seemed kind of confused by the rat, once it touched it with one foot it jumped back but the rat was stuck in it's claws so it jumped again. Very silly.

Good afternoon gardeners. I still work on the garden clean up every morning before I feed the chickens. I pulled the chard plants today. Good golly they put out some very thick and long roots. I had to use my weed spinner to get the roots out. The chickens got the few remaining chard greens. I had to go to tractor supply earlier for chicken feed, shavings and scratch. I also picked up a bag of mealworms to give them added protein. I also stopped at BJ’s to pick up a turkey for thanksgiving. The smallest one I could find was 15 pounds. Still, at .99 cents a pound it was the lowest price around here. After unloading the car and hauling the pellets and scratch to the chicken coop I’m done with heavy lifting for the day. It’s sunny and warm near 70F today. I can’t believe these warm temps we’ve been having. Still no more frost for at least another week. I am not complaining at all.

@NewBoots I made a low sugar jalapeno strawberry jam this year & we are loving it. If you're interested here's the recipe, I subbed all the red peppers for hot & it's perfect. :lau https://pomonapectin.com/strawberry-jalapeno-jam/

@Wee Farmer Sarah I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a .99 turkey from BJs on Sun! I had just bought 2 small ones for us personally & didn't really think I had room for a big, family one but I'm kicking myself now. Of course all over the news now is the turkey shortage. 🙄 Looked like canned pumpkin gets a break from the shortage this year. :lau

I realllly dislike lemonade. LOL

I think I've decided on bluebarb jam for the holiday jam this year. I still have rhubarb in the freezer so this will use it up & it's easy to make. Maybe this weekend I can get it over with & put the canner away for the season.
