What did you do in the garden today?

Got busy and behind so have missed a lot!
We have a freeze expected Tuesday and Wednesday so I picked all my tomatoes. Lot of them but they're all still green with the barest beginning of a blush towards ripening.

These are earlygirls. I started them indoors during the summer and planted em out before it was cool enough to fruit. Frustrating, but I'm still not ready to give up on growing tomatoes. 🤣

I didn't pull the plants because I read that tomatoes can live a few years if heat or cold don't get them. So going to try covering them and see if I can get them through til spring. Maybe that'll give them enough of a jump to get fruit. 🤞

Does anyone have some good recipes for green tomatoes?

Hey all. Got a couple inches of snow last night. Normally I’d be happy but my walker doesn’t have snow tires. 😂 Gonna have to try the treadmill I guess but that thought scares me.

Did you get a fusion? if so I can give you info about going thru that. I had the L4-5 and some of the C's done. Give yourself 4 to 6 weeks to do little things. 8 weeks to 'on paper' be able to go back to work and be 'normal' but in reality a good year before it really feels 'normal' to the point you can do what you used to once do ... again.

First surgery they took out the disk at L4/L5 & put in a cage & some marrow from my hip. 2nd surgery will be rods. I’m out of work for 6 weeks. We assume I’ll be back for at least another fusion as the disk above & the disk below are already herniated, but aren’t causing me too much pain atm. We think, anyway. Feeling pretty darn good considering. Thanks for sharing.
my chickens ate some mice/rat poison and nothing happen. they also ate poisoned mice and rats. the vet says that sort poison is dangerous only for animals with fur. of course it is better if they do not eat it.
We gave up & started using poison, the rodents were doing too much damage. The package says its safe on secondary ingestions - meaning if my chicken ate a mouse that ate poison They’d be ok. Or if a hawk did. I went years refusing to use it but the mice have been eating the insulation u der the siding on the house & they actually chewed thru the pex water lines on a neighbors house & flooded it - that sealed the deal on switching to poison.
Wow that'd be interesting if it was. 😲 You could sprinkle some corn or sunflower seeds on the peanut butter on the trap. That should attract the mice. 😊
Thats what we do on the traps, the chipmunks can’t resist it!

I have all my seeds for next year so all the catalogs go directly into the recycle bin here too, I don’t need any temptations. 😂

Good frosty New England morning all. We got about 2 inches here overnight. Not worth cranking up the snowblower. Did clear the driveway and front walk by hand. Just a little exercise. Good to see you posting after your surgery @Sueby. I wouldn’t worry about shoveling there. I’m expecting a few more deliveries today and that’s the only reason I shoveled. Three inches or less you normally just drive over it. I’m hoping this bit of snow and the cold temps will encourage Yogi and his friends into hibernation. I would really like to feed the local wild birds.

Howling winds, zero visibility day, wet everything. Ever smelled a wet alpaca first thing in the morning? :sick They are not daisy fresh.
We need every drop of moisture. The creeks are running dry, and the cattle ponds are almost completely gone.
Farmer down the hill told me only since 2012 and 1956 has he seen it this low. Mind, and records, like a steel trap that man.

Smear peanutbutter on traps, smash some seeds into it to entice the rats and mice to go at it and catch them. The PB holds the seeds in place and makes it so they have to work it a bit to get to the seeds and can't just gently grab em and run. Most peanutbutter has a lot of sugar in it, however there are some variants on how it's made.. of course, there always is. Most of them are NOT for the better either. Seen some made with honey that tasted pretty good. Either way they can't change how it's made TOO much otherwise they can't call it 'peanutbutter' anymore, even if the ingredient they used made it better / healthier for youetc, they can't change it, that whole thing is mafia ruled anyways. Dairy is almost as bad in the states, not so much changing how it's made but just doing it. They make it impossible for the small farmer to compete with his 2 or 3 cows and sell his milk on sundays type BS. There are ways around this though, so yes you CAN still get REAL milk that has not been molested, buggered, and corn holed into thin watery garbage.

PS, I find that the dairy farmer down the street, when you bring her some fresh home made persimmon ice cream that was made with persimmons that were grown from the person on the other side of the road... milk magically appears when ya'll need it :D :p Bribing with eggs don't work as we all have yard birds down here, however my coffee always is a nice trump card when need be too! :)
