What did you do in the garden today?

I'm starting mine out of pots. The seeds haven't sprouted yet but it's only been a couple weeks. It's when they get transplanted into the ground is when they seem not to stay alive. I might try that when I transplant them is to really make sure they are fertilized to give them a little boost
This Burpee representative is confidant anyone can grow carrots.................

This actually made me feel very confident
Keep trying. It took me 3 attempts to be truly successful. They also can take longer than expected - pulling one or two to check isn't a bad idea, but don't dig up the whole lot at once. Checking the width of the "shoulders" is the best indicator I found without digging.
Loose, well drained soil is very important. I had great results last year with some very impressive carrots, and I grew then in a raised bed that I have amended a number of times with well finished compost. Be sure to carefully pick rocks or if you're bed as well - since we used mostly native soil I hoe and rake the soil in my raised beds every Spring before planted, picking any ricks out along the way. Carrots will curve or split if the root runs into a rock - which you may not mind much for eating but it can make harvesting more challenging.

I've been stupid busy with work since Monday, culminating to the busiest day today. I'm exhausted...and now suffering a sore throat. Probably from the pollen. Got a new office chair because my back was hurting from my previous one. Butchered 10 chickens tonight which also makes my back hurt badly for whatever reason. I'll end up taking some prescription anti-inflammatories. I'll pressure cook and can the meat tomorrow. Too exhausted to do anything else tonight. 😴

We had strep throat last week...Hopefully it's not that.
But it sounds like you're getting a lot of stuff done. Do you always can your chicken?

funny story about Penny the cat in my pics above. She’s totally fine getting petted, but not a fan of being held, prefers pets while in her bed.

Today I took her outside after I plucked her out of her bed on the wide window ledge in the workshop. She shortly went back to her bed. An hour later I took her back outside, but this time, I put her in her favorite patch of weeds (currently dried/dead stuff). A few minutes later she walks past me but is Limping!!! What! Oh no, did I toss her in the weeds and she got stuck with something?? But I only tossed her on top of the weeds from about a foot above the ground!! But, she’s definitely limping and sadly meows.

I pick her up, cradle her on her back and inspect her paws, especially the limping one. My spouse also inspects her, we feel her legs, everything is good. She pitifully meows a few times for good measure. We are talking to her etc. can’t find anything wrong… so we put her down and watch her walk. Um, yeah…no limping -she’s totally fine. So, I tell the teen (the cat is hers) and the teen informs me that this is common attention (food? Petting?) seeking behavior of the cat. So, maybe she really does like to be petted..pity petting anyway. Silly cat.

I changed the UV light on my 1/2 acre mosquito trap, but I did not replace the bait. I am going to see if it regains control of the mosquitoes before I put in a new bait packet.

I know from past experiences, with a new UV and bait, I can walk outside with out a shirt with out getting any mosquito bites. The manufacturer recommend changing the UV every 3 months, but I wait until I get bit by mosquitoes because I usually forget when I changed it last.

What trap is this?

What trap is this?
Dyna Mosquito trap, it has a fan under the UV light that blows down, so bugs get sucked into a screen chamber and die from dehydration. They also sell a human scent bait that smells like body odor.. The trap claim the UV reaction to the trap's surface gives off Co2 that mosquito are attracted to, but I think the bait is a must have for the trap to clear the mosquito.

If I didn't have this trap, I would be eaten alive.
