What did you do in the garden today?

Yucky weather freezing rain then sleet and finally snow by the evening. Making a pot of chilly, cake, cheeseball, laundry and dishes done. Put up a grow light. Anyone else do winter sowing?

I just sowed peppers, tomatoes and kholrabi in starter cells. I'm thinking I'll sow a few pots of herbs too and keep then under the grow lights - if they get big early I'll just start pruning them back and use the trimmings in our cooking.

I found a nice 48 inch by 29 inch folding table to use as my seed starting table. I’m thinking of getting another heat mat as well. All the leek cells have not germinated so I’ll be adding seeds to those cells. DD’s seed order arrived today so I believe all we need are the seed potatoes. It’s nearly 60F here and overcast. Rain is moving in tomorrow morning and then the temps will start going down. I’m glad the colder stuff will be moving in before everything starts blooming. Looks like another arctic blast at the end of next week.

They just changed the long range forecast (out till March) to "colder than average." I'm find with that! Keep those fruit trees from blooming too early.

No, no headphones at all. Maybe that was the problem

Nothing garden related other than checking on the DIY grow tent for a quick second. Left the house at 7am and got home at 1:30am - 18.5 hours away today working at the office, hanging out with a friend and then doing snow removal. Finally in bed and will be awake again in 5 hours.

Interesting. However, it’s a little funny to me with the cabbage in there. Anyone try to grow anything near cabbage? It’s pretty hard. I’ve tried this, and cabbage get pretty large and shade out anything near (and by near, I mean within a 2 -3 foot radius). Plus they are heavy feeders. Some of the other things wouldn’t be there at the same time. But, at least you know what isn’t going to cause major problems.

We have a lot of success with carrots near tomatoes. And carrots with green beans or beets - the carrots benefit from some of the shade provided by the tomatoes and beans/beets.

I got mostly rain. freezing rain and some sleet. No snow to remove. Cold day today but warmer weekend. I went through my seed stash. Looks like Seeds N Such is going to get my order as they have what I still need or want.
