What did you do in the garden today?

Find a stream/river that allows you to take a few stones. I realize not everyplace has this, but TN does not have a shortage of exposed rock! National parks do not allow removal of things. State parks -not sure, local parks might be ok. check with friends with land/streams, lake. Scrub the rocks, let them dry really well (oven on low overnight is a great place to start).

I need to get some rocks for this too. But, I’m looking for bigger rocks to put with the trees (name -some are long, and year planted).
I practically live on a rock pile. 😂

But it's not smooth stone, it's chunks of Limestone ledges.

I don't think I mentioned it yesterday - sorry if this is redundant.

We purchased a cement fountain. It's 39" tall with two tiers, the larger of which is 32" wide. Yes a nice bird sculpture insert for the top tier that makes it shape enough for birds to use as a bath and is a sculpture of birds doing just that.

I spent some time today leveling ground and preparing the area to install the fountain. I would have it installed already but the weather is cool and rainy, which drove me indoors. I need to get gravel too for the area - something nice to walk on but that will compact a bit so its not going everywhere (ideally not pea gravel, although it's cheap and we have it in two other spots already so maybe).

A frigging cutworm got to one of my ground cherries! 🤬😡🤬😡 It lasted ONE DAY! :barnie At least I had one more start that I hadn't potted up yet so I was able to replace it.
Have you ever tried using collars on your transplants?

If I don't use collars on my tomatoes and peppers a cutworm inevitably shows up. My mom used half gallon milk cartons cut in two for her tomato collars, but I use drinking cups with the bottom cut out. This year I used styrofoam coffee cups.

I was going to mention a collar, but fuzzi beat me to it. You can dig in the topsoil around the base of your plants, too, and find the worms. Chicken feed!
Something ate the plants I started son of a beach.
4 legged or 6 legged???

I have used them for in-ground vegetables... The ground cherries are planted in repourposed mineral tubs. They are between 25 - 35 gallons each. I filled them dirt from my compost area where I had composted down a giant 5+ foot by 8 ft pile of wood mulch dumped by a tree service. I didn't know it was a cutworm at first... I thought maybe one of the horses had reached over the fence and bitten it, or maybe a squirrel. When I went to put the other seedling in as a replacement, I realized there was a log piece buried near the surface. I pulled it out and that's when I saw the cutworm curled up underneath. Once I saw it, I realized immediately what had happened.
