What did you do in the garden today?

Morning Gardeners. Going up to 80 today short pants.
Friday was crazy, I love that we're getting some warm temps, but it's so sudden I got sunburned. Like, two weeks ago it was still winter. All I did Friday was have the horse vet out, run them up and down outside in the sun, and I was getting dizzy, flashy shapes in my eyes, and had to sit in the shade for a bit and drink some electrolyte water!

Good morning all. We got quite the deluge yesterday and overnight. Nearly 3 inches in the rain gauge. The sump pump is working steady. I do love that piece of equipment. I'm taking my wee beasties to get their mani-pedis later this morning. Hopefully I'll get some time after lunch to plant a shrub or two. I up-potted the bell peppers, okra and eggplant seedlings yesterday. I have a few more seedlings that need bigger pots too. It's basically dry and windy today with temperatures near 60F but cooling down until Friday. Fingers crossed but it looks like I may consider planting my tomatoes outside early next week. No more frost scares and highs in the low 70's. I'm worried that the fingerling potatoes have not germinated yet. Worried that they may get moldy after all that rain. The happy news of the day is that my Empire apple tree is blooming. I added wood ashes to it over the winter and I think that did the trick. The crabapple tree across the street from it is blooming as well. It would be nice to get a few apples this year.

I get what is best described as kaleidoscope vision.

It turns out they are a form of painless, ocular migraine.

First, I wonder why everyone I see has 3 eyes. After a minute, I realize what is going on and the sparkling diamond kaleidoscope vision begins to spread and take up larger areas of what I see. It literally looks like I'm seeing everything with a kaleidoscope.

I don't get them often but, when I do, I lay down and close my eyes and relax and it will go away pretty quickly.

I think I'm going to plant my tomatoes and basil today. The plastic I covered the raised bed with seemed to work. The soil temp is about 70 degrees 8 inches down. I plan to set up a cattle panel tunnel over the bed, covered with plastic to keep it warmer. Starting Thursday temps are going to be cooler than I like for tomatoes, so the covered tunnel will help them get a good start. I hope.

That's a decent soil temp for this time. Mine is lower, but I had to set my tomatoes out - or transplant them. So I set them out.

I hope that one day I will be able to get to that thermal mass heater project I've been wanting to do for decades. I'd love to set one up in a greenhouse.

I've also wondered about heating large rocks in a fire to place in a tunnel on the coldest nights.
