What did you do in the garden today?

I watered the gardens and thought about planting those 4 packs of flowers I bought the other day.
My son isn’t doing well. He now has an infection (bacterium) throughout his body, kidneys , lungs and all his wounds. They started him on some aggressive antibiotics. So we will see.

Saying some extra prayers for him tonight. 🙏

That fig tree has me drooling! Boy do I wish I could plant mine in the ground! I'd have a forest of them. :lau

I planted 5-6 fig trees. people asked me why as there are a lot of fig trees everywhere around. but I want to have figs on hand. my chickens will love them too when they grow and start producing. it is very helpful in summer, cuts down feed cost.

Do you have these in the USA? View attachment 3523092
Basically you can attach in to any water system or resovoir (reservoir has to be above the ground) and it drips a certain amount of water through a certain amount of time (depends of the equipment).

that is exactly what I installed. although it is not automatic it saved me. I hope not to have mildew on zucchini and cucumbers this year thanks to this irrigation system. watering with hose destroyed them every year till now.

@CNJ
I wonder what the outcome would be when grafting a single plant onto two separate (maybe even different variety) rootstocks. I'm thinking grafting up on the rootstock stems high enough that the rootballs could be set in the soil about a foot apart. That would double the amount of nutrients the grafted plant would be getting, wouldn't it? Crazy idea?

I have seen that on tv. it worked well.

Ah is he aware of what is going on ?
I will keep him and you all in my prayers.

Can someone please help me with an ID of some garden pests?

Here is the first one. I found it on one of my radish plants.

Here is the second one, located on one of my potato plants.

I don’t even know if they are harmful pests or beneficial insects. I don’t know how to tell the difference.

Could someone please help me out?

On a sidenote, I harvested two more radishes today.
Black one is a black soldier fly. It is a friend. The other one?

Still 13 pages behind after reading a bunch... so just paying and moving on.

Busy as a bee lately. Every weekend is jam packed with activities/events it seems. Hard to find the time to get things done in the garden, or even work on the truck or the shed build. There's been gravel in my driveway for a month now - the pile is small now, but it should have gone in two weekends if I wasn't so busy away from home all the time.

Made a yankie slaw with kohlrabi from the garden mixed with apples and red cabbage for a BBQ on Sunday. Smoked the cow head from our 1/4 cow order on Monday and made tacos - not quite a good as last year but still tasty. Cooked more greens recently, using what we can before they bolt beyond use.

Peppers are starting to fruit and so arev tomatoes - those early starts are going to pay off I think. Melon plants are growing slow. I how they are not going to be a bust again. Carrots need to be thinned. Everything else is doing alright.
Smoking the cow head is not something we ever did. Sounds adventurous.
The 1/4 cow order did not include that, did it? Did you have to pay extra, or were they just willing to throw it in if you wanted it?

And then, what is the process and what did you do with it?

Good morning all. All the live plants and bare root trees and shrubs were delivered yesterday afternoon. I had just finished mowing the grass and feeding the chickens. Good golly! The lavender and chive plants were delivered before lunch and I planted one lavender and the chives in the herb garden. This morning I’ll be planting 2 bare root grapes, a dogwood tree, a keifer pear tree and a forsythia. Hopefully it goes quickly. My dogs are over due for their baths so that will happen this afternoon. Tomorrow I have to go to TSC for chicken feed and shavings. Then get the ac unit into my bedroom window. The temperatures today will be low 80’s. Tomorrow and Friday will be near 90F. Ugh! So sorry your son is still struggling @karenerwin. Hugs and warm wishes to you and your family.
